New converter, now tranny holds 1st too long.

Just replaced the torque converter in my car last weekend and now the tranny holds 1st gear to about 6000 rpm at full throttle. At part throttle, the tranny shifts at about 3500 rpm. I adjusted the TV cable per thirdgen's instructions. I can readjust the cable and get the tranny to shift at 5000 rpm at wot and 3000 at part throttle, but then the rest of the gears shift earlier and are real "soft." Can anyone help me out. I did have a transgo shift kit installed prior to doing the torque converter.

sounds fairly normal to me. i have a transgo shift kit and i shift at about 6000 at wot.

Ok, I did some more driving around and i've found that the tranny doesn't shift into 2nd at all, just goes from 1st strait to 2nd at part throttle and wot. I also noticed that the tranny will sometimes try to downshift into second but just slips and goes back into 3rd. When i put the torque converter in, i also put a new vette servo in. Could I have done something wrong when I put the servo in? All other gears seam to be working fine, and the band can't be bad because it goes into 4th without a problem.

Forgot to add that at wot, I have to let off the gas for it to shift. If I don't let off, it won't shift. I also can't manually shift through the gears.

you are right. that does sound weird. possibillity that you broke/forgot/mis-aligned a sealing ring on the second apply piston and it will not pressurize. you're right, if it was the band, you wouldn't have OD either.

Anyone else have any ideas or suggestions for me before I start tearing into the tranny tonight?

I believe that when a "trans expert" rebuilt my trans, he used too short of a 2nd apply pin for the servo.

If I'm light on the gas and accelerate (or if I'm heavy on the gas, too!), the trans shifts into second, then slips out.

BUT- if I take off from a stop and manually put the the stick in 2nd, the trans shfits into second and stays without slipping. Then I just row up into 4th.

Line pressure is almost doubled in the trans when the stick's in manual 1st or manual 2nd. So I'd say try taking off, at part throttle, with the stick in 2nd and see if the car acts differently.

the same pin is used to apply the band in 2nd and 4th.
