700 slowly dying?

I've got a 700 with well over 200k on it, and it's starting to refuse to engage TCC lockup (resulting in 70 mph being 2500 rpms with 2.73s :( ), and my 2-3 shift has a hesitation and slight slip to it. It's been doing things of this nature and slowly getting worse since I bottomed the car out fairly bad. I have done no maintenance to it for over 40k.

Are these type of problems something that new fluid/filter and a little Lucas are going to help, or is this thing doomed?

It doesn't always mean that because your tranny is slipping in gear shifts that its going to go bad. I mean, yes in the long run if you let it stay that way then it will go down fairly sooner than you think.

Change the fluid/filter asap. Especially if you haven't done anything for over 40k. Also try seeing if your car is in need of a TV cable adjustment, my car shifted very early at 109k miles first gear shift was like 8mph, now its at 15mph where it should be.

But yes change those tranny fluid and filter its a must on these cars.

Not changing the transmission fluid every 20 to 25k and I mean a full flush is going to shorten the life of these transmissions. They will go downhill VERY quickly if you do not take care of them. Get that thing serviced and if it continues to slip be ready to replace it. Mine was demolished after 3 weeks of problems.

well i'm wondering if I've damaged my torque converter, because the car seems to have a lot of slip to it. I mean, it's not like a full slip where it just hits 5k rpms and goes nowhere, but in any gear but first, it seems to make a lot of noise and not pull that well. It will wind up to 2500 or so and just not take off like it used to, and the car is in perfect tune. and the fact that it won't go into full lockup is pretty weird. But yeah, will do the fluid/filter change ASAP!

I am having sort of the same problem now :(, i just got the car running from a long nap and the trans seems like its in need of a lil TLC. when shifting from 1-2 its a really hard jerk and tire cherp, the when going from 2-3 if the pedals not on the floor or close to it, the car starts to hesistate but stops once more throttle is put on  Any help would be great

Strangely enough, I didn't mention it, but this particular 700 I was talking about before will shift 1-2 hard as well. I get second gear scratches now on a car that I've never got them on before.

someone told me that if i was to get trans flushed it would take care of my problem but i'm not sure thats all it is, and also whats the differance between the 700R4 trans and th350 in referance to like take off speed and shifting. i heard their wasnt a differance but why are some people chaning out the 700R4 for them.

If you bottomed the car out what you may have done perhaps is hit the trans pan and dent it up. thereby restriction flow to the filter... I have done that before. Made a trans shield to go over that so it never happens again.

No, i never bottomed out it is just like that, i think its been like that b4 i bought the car but the guy never told me. Its ok cause i got the car for $500. Since then i only put in about $600, but i know with a 3gen i'll put in more. Also i was think about going to a manual shift and i was wondering what would be a good trans for that and what eles would i need to complete the auto to manual swap?

Angelis83LT 11-06-2005 02:36 AM

there are lots of threads on that swap... a t-5 or a t-56. depends really on preference, since the final drive gear can be the same. the advantage of a 6 spd is for acceleration really. since the gears are better.

kool thanks
