not the usual tv cable question

ok I know there has been a million posts about how to adjust tv cable and all but i have a different problem and i need help. ok i have a holley 670 first off. its made like this carb as far as the linkage. how can i get it to work with the tv cable properly. i have the holley bracket and the peice that mounts to the carb, at least the other holley carbs, and i cant get it to work right. Ive even tryed to make my own and it is better but just wondering if anyone have made this work before.

the carb picture like mine is at http://www.holley.com/data/products/...arge0-9379.jpg

If memory serves me correctly.

The center point from idle to WOT should be 1.25 inches on the centerline of the linkage.

Meaning the location from idle measured in a straightline at WOT should be 1.25 inches. (point at idle and follow thru the arc of range/motion to WOT measured in a strightline from point to point will be 1.25 inch)

Remember this number due to some swaps I've had to help with in the past, so verify it before u just blatantly use it.

Should be a simple matter to figure out a bracket to get u close. Might have to rig it or do some engineering however.

thats exactly what i measuer and i made me a bracket that gives it exactly that much travel but i can not get it adjusted for the life of me. no matter how many times i read how to adjust the cable, and i do it the best i can, i cant get it right.

Well ok,

is the TV cable new? It doesnt matter what some people say, they do tend to stretch as they age and this can affect them, especially if the adjustment is off.

Car should be hot/warm when u do this. Might not matter but I tend to adjust everything with the car hot/warm, since thats how I drive it.

I prefer to use the actual linkage to open it vs. using the gas pedal for setting it properly. Less to go wrong with if u know what u r doing.

Have it all hooked up in the car.

Push the D shaped cup in on the actual TV cable housing.

push the cable all the way into the housing.

Gently but firmly rotate the linkage all the way open slowly so you can hear the cable ratchet as it comes out of the housing.

Do it one more time to make sure u didnt miss a click and it should be set.

If something is slipping or bending while u do this, it wont be right.

If u set it the proper way and u still have issues, it could be the trans itself

For more clarification, there is a TV cable setting article on this site somewhere

I have the Holley 670 and the Air Gap manifold and what I did was buy the TV System from Bow Tie Overdrives. It will give you the correct parts to hook up your tv cable as well as your throttle and it will get the correct geometry for you. It's a little pricey but in my opinion is well worth the cost if you consider that if not properly set you can burn up your trans. Check it out online at their website.

is your 670 holley set up like the one in the picture as far as the linkage goes?

the cable is the one that was on the car when i got it and it worked fine so thats the one im using right now but that is a good point i may check into another one. also what part is supposed to ratchet? is in the teeth on the side where you can adjust when you press the button in, or is it something inside that you cant see like on the cable itself?

For the most part, yes, although mine is vacumn secondaries. The Tv System from Bow Tie Overdrives works with any of the Holley's. The important thing for them to know if it is for square bores versus spead bore. Their web site will lead you to the correct one to buy but I would say it would be the same as the one I use. I bought some various different ball studs for hooking up my throttle from my local parts store. Like I said, it is a great working system that allows you to fine tune your adjustments of both the throttle and tv cable. It also came with a new GM tv cable. Hope this helps you..
