Need to put fluid in tranny but don't want to overfill it.
 

what is the best way to fill the tranny without getting too much in there?

I'm assuming it's one of your cars listed to the side there, so it must be a manual. take the plug out of the tranny on the passenger side and stick your finger in, you should be able to feel the oil to see if it's low. take a syringe and fill it with oil until it gets high enough that it starts to come out of the hole your filling it at.

yep. it's the T5 in my 88 Formula. I plan on just jacking up the front of the car,, which shouldn't be an issue, correct?
the only time i've filled a tranny is when they are installed and I just fill it from the shifter hole, and I don't want to pull the console and shifter out this time.

nah, jacking up the front shouldn't be an issue.

dont you want it kind of level though?

yeah, you definatly want it level. but jacking it up won't offset the level too much. I always jacked mine up from the front.

It was a quart low.
While I had the front end up, I deceided to install my hooker headers.
Everything proceeded ok till one bolt broke off flush in the head, then I drilled it and was using an easy-out style bit and that broke off. Any ideas?

wow. that sucks. I've never had that happen to me. The only thing I can think of outside of drilling it out and retapping the bore is to take the head off and get it machined...

Not gonna happen. Head will only come off if I am putting better ones on.
Maybe I can drill it out enough to get a stud in there and then have the stud tack welded.

Good luck with that. The easy-out is made of tungsten. Prepare to eat drill bits. My neighbor did that with one bolt that held in his thermostat. I don't remember what his final solution was, but it wasn't pretty. At all.

Maybe it's time to put some Vette heads on. A friends brother in-law has an 87 vette motor for sale that I am thinking about getting if the price is right, i'll call him tomorrow and see what's up.
motor has the balancer/damper bolt snapped off in it and needs to be freshened up, probably just use the heads now and build the bottom end up down the road.

Yeah, the really bad part is that fact that the easy-out broke off in the bolt. I've done that before and it's such hard steel it's almost impossible to drill. If you could manage to weld another bolt the the broken one, you might be able to wrench the whole thing out, but you'll need to have enough of the original bolt sticking out to be able to do this. If that isn't feasible, you're probably stuck with having to pull the head off and taking it to a machine shop. Good luck. I feel for ya man!

why the hell do they call them easy outs?! all I ever read about is people breaking them in the holes and making the job 10x harder

anyways, I did the same deal, except I broke one off flush in the head, and still have 2 rear stud/bolt that are like fused to the head.. i swear ;0

all on passenger side.. cars been sitting in garage most of summer... all cos I felt like putting my headers on. Havent had the motivation to start tearing stuff apart, feel the same way, if its coming apart its getting upgraded, but no $$ for that.

I think I may work on the car today, haven't touched it since I broke the bolt and easyout.
I am going to try 5 bolts and see if that holds up good enough with the dead soft aluminum gaskets.
