Clutch not doing anything
 

Hi, I have an 86 camaro that was a 305 700R4. I swapped in a freshly rebuilt 350 and a freshly rebuilt 83 T-5. I put everything in and i believe I have the throwout bearing inthere the right way. i put in the clutch pedal hooked up the z bar. When the car is running and I push in the clutch i cant shift into any gear. but the tranny shifts when car is not running. Before i did this swap I had this setup in an 83 camaro and it was quiet hard to push in the clutch it was stiff.(centerforce clutch and hurst shifter). Now in the 86 it doesnt feel the same, its quiet a bit softer.

Any ideas on what I might have done wrong or missing?

Which way did you put the fork on the throwout bearing?

I'm not sure, I thought i put it in there the right way, I'm ganna pull the tranny off today and I'll check. Is there anything else I should be looking for?

Whats adjustable on a zbar linkage? just the threaded rod that hook to the fork?

I took the boot off of the fork and took a look in there. The throwout bearing is in the right place. I noticed that the z bar is only sitting on the engine stud about half an inch. It looks like it wants to slip off. What can I do about it?

Hey, I figured out what was the problem or at least I found a solution. It took me about 2 days but i finally figured out that if I make the bar that goes through the firewall a bit straighter then i have quiet a bit more travel. I dont know if the bar got bent before or what, but when i pushed the clutch in it only pushed on the actual arm on the bellhousing about 3/8 of an inch. Instead of like 1 1/2. Now everything works good.

One thing tho...
How do i know exactly how to adjust the clutch, I mean the perfect spot for it. Is the throwout bearing suppose to be touching the fingers without pressing the clutch, or is there suppose to be a gap? Right now i think I have the bearing just touching the fingers. Is this ok?

You might want to back it off just a hair. It's not good to have the throwout bearing spinning all the time as it'll wear out the throwout bearing prematurely. Beyond that, just adjust it where it feels the best to you.
