Deep Transmission Pan...Good or Bad Idea??

I have a 91 z28, im in the process of swapping my 305 with a 350. A friend of mine suggests I get a deep transmission pan. Is there any real advantage to this, besides the drain plug and the transmission fluid will be slightly cooler?
My biggest concern however is that my car already sits very low to the ground, I bottom out far more often then I'd like. I know its not that much deeper than the stock pan, but if i was to go with a deep pan would I be in danger of it hitting the pavement? Does anyone have any personal experience with such a situation?

My transmission is the original one that came with the car, that is the 700R4 is that correct?

mine has been hit before. hard enough to make it leak. but i had 2 tires blow out on the drivers side and hit a sidewalk head on. crimped the stock y pipe too. just don't spend alot of money on the deep pan and keep the old one handy. :)

then again... you hit a sidewalk. expect to break sh!t when you do that.. LOL

deep pans are a great idea if you have a stall or any other trans mods that cause the fluid to heat up faster and/or reduces the capacity...

unless your car is absolutely slammed, you can drive around normally with one... for the car to be low enough to hit it regularly, you would already have a car so low that you have to be careful when you drive.

:iagree: I have the TCI deep pan installed on my IROC plus, the car is lowered. NOT much in the way of clearance. In fact, I plan to replace it with a OE style pan just to avoid potential damage.

IMO if you need additional cooling, spend your money on installing a good aftermarket trans cooler.

Anyone know of baffled stock replacement pans? I need to change my fluids and filter so I thought why not get a better stock pan. I have seen a few but not sure if they were for the 700r4. Anyone know anything about these?

Its kind of like Milodins stock replacement oil pan with baffles for extra cooling.
