Hurst TH-400 Help

I wish I would have bought the Sphon piece, but I got this one before I even knew that there was a Sphon. I was wondering if anyone else here runs the hurst turbo 400 trans swap kit. On my instructions it shows that another cross member needs to be bolted to their crossmember, but my 700-R crossmember doesn't seem to fit right. I just need to know if anyone else has tackled that obstacle, by the way the part # for the extra crossmember is GM PN 14059976, is that just a dealer part.

Re: Hurst TH-400 Help

I used the "top half" of the mount and bolted it to the crossmember that was supplied in the kit. My car was a 5 spd b4 the swap. If you have anymore ?'s on the kit let me know.

Re: Hurst TH-400 Help

I've got the tranny in, but my instructions say soemthing about another crossmember that the transmission mount bolts to, and I can't find it anywhere the gm dealer said it was discontinued. So I guess I am going to ave to make something for it to mount to. Did you have that problem

Re: Hurst TH-400 Help

On your original tranny crossmember, there should be a "plate" that bolted to your original crossmember, that is the piece that you will need. IIRC it is also called a secondary crossmember? I will try to get out in the garage 2nite and take some pics for you to hopefully clear up the confusion.

Re: Hurst TH-400 Help

I'm just about to do the same swap and was wondering about that part number too.

As far as i can tell its just a part used as an 'adapter' to attach the GM Trans mount o the new Hurst crossmember.

EDIT: Also, what did you guys use for the "GM Insulator" and "GM Cushion" parts?

EDIT 2: Added scan so we're on the same page...

Re: Hurst TH-400 Help

I have a couple of the GM Crossmembers and also the GM Insulators. If either of you want to purchase them send me a PM. I am not looking for very much money. I don't use them with my 6 speed conversion.

Re: Hurst TH-400 Help

I'm down in Australia so it might be cheaper for me to make something. But I'm hoping the crossmember is something I already have on the car.

Re: Hurst TH-400 Help

I don't think it was on mine, but I got my car for free just had to give the motor and tranny to a guy. But the car was pretty hacked up I don't know what all has been took off prior to me, but that crossmember has been discontinued at the gm counter, but they still carry the bushings. I haven't got t work on my car for about a week, but I am probably going to make whatever I need.

Re: Hurst TH-400 Help

Well I got in all in today, had a few hours in between jobs. But I just made the secondary crossmember out of a piece of plate steel, 1/4" thick and drilled out all the holes bolted it up. Worked pretty good, put a level on the torque arm to keep it straight.
