700R4 Speedometer Gear Calculator Program Just because I was bored... No guarantees how accurate any of the info is, but if you find something wrong with it, let me know. http://fuzzball.dynip.com/700R4_Screen.jpg Download from: http://fuzzball.dynip.com/700R4.exe Maybe at least one person might find it useful. https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/smile.gif ------------------ 1984 Camaro Z28 Astral Silver w/ 2 1/2" cowl induction hood Engine: Decked 383 cid 4 bolt w/ oil cooler, 9.6:1 compression, ARP fasteners, 600 cfm Performer carburetor, Torker II intake, Performer RPM Heads, XE268H cam, Magnum roller tip rockers, MSD6AL ignition, Blaster2 coil, recurved HEI distributor Exhaust: Terminator headers, Custom 3" TIG welded stainless exhaust, Twister muffler Transmission: 4L60 w/ Corvette servo, .500 boost valve, TransGo 7-CS clutch springs, 700 PKH pump rings, 700-2 reprogramming kit, Borg-Warner High-Energy frictions & bands, 2400 RPM lockup torque converter Drivetrain: 2.73:1 limited-slip Dana 44 w/ disc brakes Tires: Front P225/50VR15 Rear P265/50VR15 Eagles |
Also if you want to make sure or do it yourself. Here's the formula: 63360 x axle ratio _______________________ = answer 3141.6 x tire diameter Now take that answer and multiply it by the number of teeth on the drive gear (the one inside the tranny on the main shaft)the answer you get will be the nuber of teeth you need on the driven gear (speedometer gear) Round it to the nearest number. I found this formula when I bought a richmond 6 speed, it was in the owners manual. It worked for me my speedo is very accurate. |
Actually you're probably best off rounding the number of teeth on the driven gear to the next highest integer, so you've got a little breathing room in case your speedo head reads a little low. ------------------ 1984 Camaro Z28 Astral Silver w/ 2 1/2" cowl induction hood Engine: Decked 383 cid 4 bolt w/ oil cooler, 9.6:1 compression, ARP fasteners, 600 cfm Performer carburetor, Torker II intake, Performer RPM Heads, XE268H cam, Magnum roller tip rockers, MSD6AL ignition, Blaster2 coil, recurved HEI distributor Exhaust: Terminator headers, Custom 3" TIG welded stainless exhaust, Twister muffler Transmission: 4L60 w/ Corvette servo, .500 boost valve, TransGo 7-CS clutch springs, 700 PKH pump rings, 700-2 reprogramming kit, Borg-Warner High-Energy frictions & bands, 2400 RPM lockup torque converter Drivetrain: 2.73:1 limited-slip Dana 44 w/ disc brakes Tires: Front P225/50VR15 Rear P265/50VR15 Eagles |
is that diameter the diam. of the wheel or the tire. I figure that its the wheel since the program won't let you go above 20. bsa ------------------ "If they do not run, Then they will die." - Stonewall Jackson '87 IROC, 355 TPI,700R4, Trick Flow Heads, Comp Cam, Comp 1.6 Rockers, Lucas 23# injectors, Edelbrock headers, Flowmaster 3'' exhaust, gutted cat, Mallory coil, Mallory HyFire IV ignition box, Mallory Sidewinder 8mm wires, Autolite platinum plugs, K&N filters, Transgo Performance Shift Kit, Corvette Servo, 2,000 Torque Converter |
Diameter of the wheel, so you can put in the tire size as it's marked on the sidewall without too much thinking. https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/smile.gif ------------------ 1984 Camaro Z28 Astral Silver w/ 2 1/2" cowl induction hood Engine: Decked 383 cid 4 bolt w/ oil cooler, 9.6:1 compression, ARP fasteners, 600 cfm Performer carburetor, Torker II intake, Performer RPM Heads, XE268H cam, Magnum roller tip rockers, MSD6AL ignition, Blaster2 coil, recurved HEI distributor Exhaust: Terminator headers, Custom 3" TIG welded stainless exhaust, Twister muffler Transmission: 4L60 w/ Corvette servo, .500 boost valve, TransGo 7-CS clutch springs, 700 PKH pump rings, 700-2 reprogramming kit, Borg-Warner High-Energy frictions & bands, 2400 RPM lockup torque converter Drivetrain: 2.73:1 limited-slip Dana 44 w/ disc brakes Tires: Front P225/50VR15 Rear P265/50VR15 Eagles |
I have a small question. How come your driven gear part #'s dont match the ones in the FAQ's section? Just curious as to where you got your numbers. The colors match. Maybe that is the only thing that matters? https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/faq/thirdgen.shtml ------------------ 1989 IROC-Z 5.7L |
The numbers in the program are the ones I got from the local GM dealer for cable driven speedometers, they're a gear with a long shaft through it. I'm not sure, but I think the ones in the FAQ are for electronic speedos, and are a similar gear but have a keyed hole instead of the shaft. If anyone wants, I can put both sets of part numbers in. I also have numbers for speedo gears for Muncie and TH350 transmissions. ------------------ 1984 Camaro Z28 Astral Silver w/ 2 1/2" cowl induction hood Engine: Decked 383 cid 4 bolt w/ oil cooler, 9.6:1 compression, ARP fasteners, 600 cfm Performer carburetor, Torker II intake, Performer RPM Heads, XE268H cam, Magnum roller tip rockers, MSD6AL ignition, Blaster2 coil, recurved HEI distributor Exhaust: Terminator headers, Custom 3" TIG welded stainless exhaust, Twister muffler Transmission: 4L60 w/ Corvette servo, .500 boost valve, TransGo 7-CS clutch springs, 700 PKH pump rings, 700-2 reprogramming kit, Borg-Warner High-Energy frictions & bands, 2400 RPM lockup torque converter Drivetrain: 2.73:1 limited-slip Dana 44 w/ disc brakes Tires: Front P225/50VR15 Rear P265/50VR15 Eagles [This message has been edited by Apeiron (edited December 10, 2000).] |
D*mn it! I was afraid you were gonna say that. That means I just ordered electronic speedo gears for my car. DOAH! $14 down the drain. Time to start over! https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/smile.gif ------------------ 1989 IROC-Z 5.7L |
Yeah, guess how I learned that one https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/wink.gif ------------------ 1984 Camaro Z28 Astral Silver w/ 2 1/2" cowl induction hood Engine: Decked 383 cid 4 bolt w/ oil cooler, 9.6:1 compression, ARP fasteners, 600 cfm Performer carburetor, Torker II intake, Performer RPM Heads, XE268H cam, Magnum roller tip rockers, MSD6AL ignition, Blaster2 coil, recurved HEI distributor Exhaust: Terminator headers, Custom 3" TIG welded stainless exhaust, Twister muffler Transmission: 4L60 w/ Corvette servo, .500 boost valve, TransGo 7-CS clutch springs, 700 PKH pump rings, 700-2 reprogramming kit, Borg-Warner High-Energy frictions & bands, 2400 RPM lockup torque converter Drivetrain: 2.73:1 limited-slip Dana 44 w/ disc brakes Tires: Front P225/50VR15 Rear P265/50VR15 Eagles |

back from the dead... I was wondering if anyone still had a copy of this program. I realize that it's been nearly 3 years since this was posted, so it's no wonder the link is dead. If anybody's got it, could you link to it or e-mail it to me? Thanks x 1,000,000. |

Getting a gear installed in a couple of days. Going from a 2.73 to a 3.73. I think I need to use a 15 and 45 tooth speedo gears. My question is, are these the right gears? Also What is involved in changing the gears? Can you just take the tailshaft apart without taking out the trans and also what is involved when you have the tailshaft apart? Last question. Do you need to order anything else besides the gears like do you need to clips or sleeves or anything? Thank you very much. |
