Should I use a Lockup convertor for TH-350? I have a TH-350 tranny. Is it best to use a Lockup type convertor? I intend to do some highway driving. |
You have to have a th350-C to use a lock-up converter. ------------------ 82 camaro--original steering wheel, brake/gas pedals, seats--everything else modified 82camaro |
I have tried to figure this out before. Is the TH-350C vacume assisted. In other words what is the best way to figure out what tranny I have & what type of torque converter to use. ------------------ '84 Camaro w/ Large Jouranl 327 bored .030 over; 3.73 geared Auburn Limited Slip Diff. The th350-C will have an electrical connection similar to the 700r4 to control the lock-up of the torque converter. ------------------ 82 camaro--original steering wheel, brake/gas pedals, seats--everything else modified 82camaro |
No electrical connection like I was afraid of. I would really like a lockup converter because I drive on the street a lot. Is there still a way of installing one? There is a vacume line going to the trany I thought that this is what controled the lockup. Should I assmue that my current convertor is a non-lockup? If so the higher stall must make the big difference because it isn't too bad now. ------------------ '84 Camaro w/ Large Jouranl 327 bored .030 over; 3.73 geared Auburn Limited Slip Diff. You will need a different tranny(a th350-C) that is equipped to control the lock-up. ------------------ 82 camaro--original steering wheel, brake/gas pedals, seats--everything else modified 82camaro |
Just adding to the above !!! 'Brockrogers' you can't just add a lockup converter to a non lockup transmission like the regular TH-350 and make a lockup setup. There is hardware inside the transmission to allow the converter to lockup. You need a Th-350C and a lockup converter to make it all work, A lockup Th-350 setup that is. http://www.ronterry.com/share/th350c.jpg Ron ------------------ '82 Trans Am '81 Camaro Z-28 '94 Vette LT1 Coupe [This message has been edited by ronterry (edited January 11, 2001).] |
This is what I was afraid of. I guess now I need to determine if I can run w/ a NonLockup TC w/ 2400 stall. Thanks for all the help. ------------------ '84 Camaro w/ Large Jouranl 327 bored .030 over; 3.73 geared Auburn Limited Slip Diff. FlowMaster Muffler w/ Shortie Headers. You'll be fine, but you might consider a Trans cooler to take care of that extra heat. It's not a whole lot of heat over the lockup, but if you want it to live long then I would, esp. with a 2400 stall converter there's a bit more heat from that to. I had that combo for a while in my 82 and it worked pretty good. Run a good cooler and you will be fine. Also, it runs cooler if your cruise rpm is around the same or higher than your stall speed. I had 3.08 gears and that convertor would slip like crazy going up hills at 60 on the highway. ------------------ 82 camaro--original steering wheel, brake/gas pedals, seats--everything else modified 82camaro |
When the snow melts I'll drive it around and really pay close attention to it. That must be why it isn't a problem now. The stall is stock at like 1400 and I know I cruse at a higher rpm than that. Plus the 3.73 gears might help to put that cruse rpm up there. I dont want it to be shifting like you said at 60mph on the highway. Dual Capicity cooler is on the list. I'll run oil through the other channel. ------------------ '84 Camaro w/ Large Jouranl 327 bored .030 over; 3.73 geared Auburn Limited Slip Diff. FlowMaster Muffler w/ Shortie Headers.
