700r4 build - Output shaft only spins one way

Hey everyone, just in the process of getting my 700r4 togeher. I torqued down the pump and noticed that my output shaft only spins one way. This is an 86 model transmission. Everthing is seated down right , i have had everything out and checked a couple times. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

One way will turn easy, the other way it will be hard to turn. If the 2-4 band is too tight, it will cause this, and too little end clearance also. If it does not spin the other way, you will have to find out what happened as it can be a variety of things other than what I stated.

The 2-4 band is not to tight, i Even tryed leaving the band out just to make sure that was not causing it. everything under the input drum spins freely both ways. It appears that the reverse input drum is holding the sun shell from turning. I also set the input drum in without the reverse input drum and tried to turn it, and it rotates one way easy and the other way is stiff but still rotates. When everything is installed and torqued down the end play in the input shaft feels right. I also tryed a thinner selective washer in the input shaft just to make sure and there was no difference. Any help would be apreciated , Thanks

how much endplay do u have? sounds too tight or its not seated all the way down?

Its almost like something is stoping the reverse input drum from turning.

sounds like its the one way roller in it...which way does the shaft turn clock wise or counter clockwise?

The shaft spins clockwise, and locks up counter clockwise

End play is about .020"

Re: 700r4 build - Output shaft only spins one way

Hey everyone, I still have not figured this out, but here is where i am at. If i have everything installed into the transmission except for the pump i can spin my output shaft both ways... One way is harder to turn but it still turns... Anyhow when i am turning it the way it locks up, once in a while somthing makes a noise and jumps up a little.... if i sit the pump down on in with no bolts it turns but when it does that jump and makes the noise the pump body moves up a bit (when tightened down it cant do this thats why it locks up i guess) Now the only thing that i can find that could be cauusing this is that the Reverse input drum the tangs are bent out a bit more then the sun shell. ITs a new sun shell (beast) and the old drum) Could this cause this or am i barking up the wrong tree? Thanks

Re: 700r4 build - Output shaft only spins one way

just to let everyone know IT was the reverse input drum causing the problem, it was bent out and causing it to bind up on case and lock up, i put another one in and it was nice and free like it should be
