When is the best time to weld the axles tubes?

Is there a chance the bearings could cook? I am swapping from my 3.08 to a zexel Torsen would it be better If I welded before I swap in the new carrier and bearings.
Can It be welded with the rearend still in the car? Any other tips would be great Thanks

i'd weld it with the carrier out, mostly because the gear oil is nasty and may blow the vent off if you weld it with the oil still in it. i've welded then with the rears in place. i use 3/32" e7018 and make 2 passes around.

Hey im thinking of just pulling out the rearend and doing everthing at once.

Have the tubes welded
Have the Hd Posi and richmond gears installed
Take out the fuel pump and put a inline Pump on.

My question is this. Will the Dealer, where I will take the rearend , need to test drive the car after the gear swap? Or can they do it if I just take them the rearend?
How will I put the rearend back in the car at the same angle it is now?

there isn't any adjustments to change if you r&r the rear end. it'll go back the same as it came out. if you want to be sure take a couple of readings with an angle finder before you drop the rear and recheck after you get it back in. i've done lots of rear ends out of the cars and no one has ever complined yet, but i don't make any promisses about my work since i work so cheap.
