Does anyone no if 82-2002 f body rears are interchangable. I need a bigger rear and was thinkng of snatching a rear from a ws6 of some sort but not sure if i can bolt it in my 84 Trans Am

The rear end in the WS6 will be of the same ring gear diameter, and only marginally stouter than you current peice, due to the 28 spline axles.

All third and fourth gen camaros have 1 of 2 rears, A Saginaw 10 bolt, or borg warner 9 bolt, with about 90%ish having the 10 bolt. All the 10 bolts have 7.625 ring gears, but are somtimes referd to as a 7.5, that is just a nickname, they are the exact same rear.

In the late 80s the ten bolts went from 26 to 28 spline axles, and that makes the later model rear a marginal upgrade, but it is still a weak rear due to the small ring gear diameter.

The fourth gen rears will bolt in but are wider, so you will need different wheels or they will stick out.

The third gen 9 bolts are a little stronger, but parts are through the roof so I would not bother looking for one.

Thank you very much that was very useful but dissapointing at the same time. I guess i have to dish out the extra cash for a moser or strange now.
