Another trans removal question..

I must be missing something here. Trying to remove my automatic transmission. The bolts between the flywheel and torque converter are out. Driveshaft and torque arm are gone. Rear crossmember is out. Transmission is hanging down and on a floor jack. Transmission cooler lines are out, TV cable is out, dipstick is out, two wiring harnesses are unplugged, connection to the shifter is off. I've taken out six bolts holding the bellhousing to the engine. It will not budge, it feels like something is still holding the two together.

The only thing I can see is there are two bolts (one on each side) that are recessed into the bellhousing, at first I thought they were all the way through but now I'm thinking maybe thats my problem. Do they have to come out too or is that unrelated? I can't get a socket to fit on them, any idea what size they are if they have to come out? My 7/16" barely fits in the recessed hole but doesn't grab the bolt, 3/8" is too small. Same with 10mm/9mm.. Haynes manual just says "remove bolts" and doesn't say how many or what size or anything like that.

Re: Another trans removal question..

Just had a look at the t56 thats going to replace the one I'm removing, assuming all the bolts are the same then those two I mentioned in the post above shouldn't matter. Those holes are straight through the bellhousing on the t56.

It seems like the transmission is just corroded and stuck to the block. I didn't see any decent place to pry them apart though.

there may be a bolt at the very top center of the bellhousing to the block.

Those 2 recessed bolts are actually alignment dowl pins. the block and trans are probably just stuck together from being together so long.

Thats what it was.. Took two screwdrivers that I didn't really like, put them at the seam between the engine and transmission and tapped them in with a hammer. Once the "seal" was broke they came apart like nothing.
