Monte Carlo ss Rear end

Will a rear end from a 1986 monte carlo ss fit into a 3rd gen. I can get one for free and might be looking to upgrade my rear. I know the monte comes with 3:73 gears and a posi and right now i have a 3:23 posi.

Completely different suspension system. Not all SS Montys had 3.73 gears. Some had 3.42.

It's narrower, lacks the torque arm bosses, and the LCA mounting brackets are the wrong placement & angle.

Ok so I won't waste my time with it

Re: Monte Carlo ss Rear end

The internal parts will transfer into a 3rd gen rear end, but the Monte rear end has 26 spline axles and your '91 will have 28 spline axles. So the swap will still not work for you.
