question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen hey guys i have a 85 z28 camaro on the trans am honey comb rims, i m thinking about doing a 4th gen rear. now i read it sticks out about 2 inches on each side. would i run into a problem with my rims? |
Re: question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen Do you have 2 inches to spare on each side? |
Re: question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen No, the rims will be fine. However, the tires may get cut by the fender; and your ego may suffer from people laughing at the "poseur" look of stock pizza-cutter wheels stuck way out in space and leaving VAST empty space inside of them. It's ... not an attractive look. But, easy to fix; just bolt on a set of 4th gen or Vette wheels. You'll need spacers for the front; around 1½" - 2" depending on the wheels you get. |
Re: question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen You won't get laughed at, except by sofakingdom maybe. The wheels setting out look better than being tucked in so far that they are narrower in track width than the front wheels. |
Re: question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen I think that the rears should stick out more than the front (wider track width), but not so much that it protrudes outside the fenders, that's actually illegal where I live.. |
Re: question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen I would laugh. Ive done it. It looks terrible. But to each his own. Do a search and look at how much they stick out. Then decide for yourself. I have a thread on here that shows it pretty good. |

I run a narrower/taller tire 225-60-16 with 1.75" spacers up front and love the stance and wheel gap. Attachment 352466 If I ever have some disposable income and nothing else to do with it I'm going to commission these guys to widen 2" to the inside and start running a 265 tire in the rear. http://www.weldcraftwheels.com/index-1.html But yes occasionally I catch the wrong angle and think, "did I make a mistake going with this rear?" I just picked up a stock 92, and I can't tell you which one I prefer with the wheels about even with the fenders or with them sunken in... |
Re: question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen thanks guys i can always roll my qauters so they dont rub |
Re: question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen So Mc, post up a pic of that car from STRAIGHT BEHIND from about 20 - 25' away, with the camera held low (12" off the ground or so), and the car pointed into the light. |

Re: question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen so buy just putting 4th gen wheels on it sits futher in? |
Re: question about 4th gen rear on a 3rd gen Appears that it does, the wheels use a totally different offset/backspacing from the 3rd Gens, should require spacers up front to look right. |
