Thinking about an 8.8 ford rear swap?

A third gen rear is 62 inches wide axle flange to axle flange. A Ford 8.8 out of a 89 to 99 Ford Crown Vic is 62.5 inches from axle flange to axle flange, has 28 spline c clip axles and axle tubes the same diameter as,a,10 bolt.

So you can swap brackets and weld on a torque arm mount and use Ford wheels and be good to go.

Or you can cut off the ends of the tubes and weld on third gen 10 bolt tubes with brackets and use 90 to 92,28 spline thikrd gen 10 bolt axles....

Or you can use a 31 spline Explorer center with aftermarket 31 spline axles

OBX makes a really cheap $ 275.00, Helical gear LSD,that with a deburr and preload spacer kit, also cheap, fits the 8.8 and is bitchin strong. Per Rustang owners....

Just thought you should know....

The torque arm mount is the hard part. You can't just weld it on. Welding steel to cast iron is not an easy job and should only be done by someone with a lot of cast iron welding experience. A bolt on bracket can be fabricated, but takes a lot of work. This isn't a job for the average person.

I didn't know that the Crown Vic had 2 5/8 inch axle tubes. I thought they were 3 inch.

Every crown vic housing i've had my hands on (several hundred), have had 3" tubes.

That's what I thought. The 7.5 10 bolt has tubes that are about 2 5/8 inches.
