clutch pedal adjustment

I just put a t56 in my 92 z28 and it seems the clutch pedal needs more of a stroke than I am getting. I can not get it in reverse with out shutting the car off. it is still on jack stands so I am not sure if I have trouble getting it in the forward gears it does go into first and so on. the clutch pedal is not as high as the brake pedal anyone else have this problem? I got a new acdelco clutch slave cylinder master cylinder and resivior and it was pre bleed. I used everything for a 95 Camaro any help would be appreciated .

Re: clutch pedal adjustment

I have seem people do a few things;
1. cut and thread the rod on the master and add a turnbuckle to make it adjustable and add length.
2. Use 3rd Gen pedals as the attachment point on the pedal is different for the master.
3. Drill a different hole in the 4th gen pedal to move the attachment point for the master.

I had to move the stud on the clutch pedal when I converted my 92 to a t5 and used 4th gen pedals

For starters, the slave can be unbolted, pointed down, and the plunger depressed repeatedly to bleed it. Easy and should be done before dropping the trans.

Next up, the pressure plate should be torqued to 22lb-ft. Because of the thread size and the numerous vehicles previous that required 65lb-ft, a lot of people miss this and it can hurt clutch release. I can't remember if you can get to the bolts with the slave and spacer removed, but if you can, go for it.

Do those before screwing with pedals.
After those, put it on the ground, and with clutch pedal down, see if it moves in 1st or reverse at 3000rpm. Whichever won't cause you to hit a wall, person, or car.

There are ways to get more throw, but if everything is identical to a bone stock 95 Z28, it will work. At this point, we know nothing about your clutch. And there are internal reverse issues possible with a T56, so again, not knowing history, you may as well hit the basics to address what's possibly dysfunctional, first.

thanks for the help the master cylinder did not have any air in it so I cut the rod that goes to the pedal and threaded it then put a coupling nut on it with two jam nuts. now I have adjustment and it works fine

Re: clutch pedal adjustment

I'm running 3rd gen pedals with a T56 in my GTA. I use a stock 4th gen master, and a '88 Cavalier slave cylinder. The Cavalier slave is different bore diameter and gives you the clutch fork stroke you need with the 3rd gen pedals. Do a search for more details as I'm foggy on the specifics, it's been a few years ago. It solved all my engagement problems.

I have a T56 in my 86 IROC, with a McLeod Hydraulic throw out bearing. I have made the 3/4" bore 3rd gen master cylinder work, but not well. Does anyone know of a master cylinder with a 7/8" or 1" bore that will fit into my 3rd gen?

Re: clutch pedal adjustment

McLeod has a 13/16" and their newer designs may have a separate cylinder that can be changed out easily. Older McLeod were one-piece steel.

Tick offers a unit that can be made in a size of your choice, call them if you don't see it offered.

There may be an OEM application cylinder that isn't 3/4" but I can't recall which year.
