Installed a turbo 350 bad choice

I have a 82 camaro with a 350 sbc with a k12-600-4 comp cams cam in it a edelbrock intake and carburetor a turbo 350 with a 2,800 stall and 2.73 rear gears and the car runs sluggish it has no power the engine sounds really powerful but that doesnt help. And the transmission and motor has just been rebuilt if anyone can help me figure out what that is the problem i will thanks ypu a lot

Re: Installed a turbo 350 bad choice

Those 2.73 rear gears are probably what's holding your car back. I would go with 3.73 to wake your car up or at least 3.42 minimum. What converter are you using? Did you check the actual stall of that converter?

The 2800 stall will work just fine with that cam. Do the rear end next. Next build I would probably stay away from the thumpr series if you want performance they are really just for noise.

Not sure what cam that is... if it was chosen for "sound", then it's optimized for high RPMs rather than low, and you may have a fundamental mismatch.

What converter is it EXACTLY?

Kinda what I thought...

Built for "sound"; not speed, power, or torque.

A definite handicap for a car where actual "performance" is the goal, especially with regard to how it leaves.

Why is the exhaust lift so low with so much duration?

To make the idle quality poor and sound like a big cam

XE268 and a 3.42 gear

I just got a really good deal in a posi unit with 4/11 gears will this work with this cam

Re: Installed a turbo 350 bad choice

Yes it will work with those gears.

If that's the S10 "posi", as is typically found with 4.11 gears, you don't want it.

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...d-gov-lock.jpg

This is why. It is a POS: the way it works is, NO POSI ACTION WHATSOEVER occurs, that is to say it has COMPLETELY unlimited "slip", until the RPM difference between the 2 axles reaches about 150 RPM or so; at which point it locks up with a bang. Literally. Then if the vehicle has lots of power and also traction, the photo happens. Sometimes it's so violent that it sends the shrapnel through the cover and even into the gas tank. (!!!!!) So, if you look inside the window of the carrier and see 2 little bitty weights on 2 teeny tiny shafts, DON'T put that in your car. You can see one of the weights in the photo, at the bottom right, kind of half behind one of the spider gear thrust washers.

Yeah then that should be OK.

Re: Installed a turbo 350 bad choice

Would it hesitate to accelerate with the 700r4 a xe268 cam and 4.11 gears or should that make it run right

sofakingdom 07-15-2018 08:29 PM

Re: Installed a turbo 350 bad choice

I doubt ANY engine combo would "hesitate to accelerate" with 4.11s. From a stop at least. Now, at 60 mph, ... could be a different matter. But that much of a gear change will make the car feel like a jackrabbit off the line, compared to those highway gas-mileage gears in it now.

Personally I wouldn't put that much gear in a car with no overdrive in the transmission, in 2018. Speaking strictly as someone who had a 79 Z28 w/ 4.10s in it, in 81. (traded that car in on my 83) Back in the day when we had just got stuck with the national 55 mph speed limit, and the cops would bust you for 56, they were OK; nowadays though, you're going to be at like 4000 RPM at 75 mph. I doubt you'll enjoy that for very long, if your driving habits involve much freeway distance. Butt hay, we all gotta find out about these things for ourselves, and depending on where you go and what you do with the car, you might really like it that way. Only way way to find out I guess.

Re: Installed a turbo 350 bad choice

Yeah the car will never see any freeway at all street only
