From the looks of it, we are gettin ourselves a nice little 3.6L engine.

Sounds like this may ba a 60* engine tooo....

Hellz ya. 255-260hp Base... Think of the possibilies.......

1986CamaroSC 03-20-2003 05:44 PM

It might be a great motor but it will be costly to buy one

85SportCoupeto89RS 03-20-2003 07:32 PM

Sweet, you never know if you might find a wrecked vehicle with one in it and score it for cheap :D

Dale 03-20-2003 08:00 PM

Damn, that means I will have to do a engine swap again in a few years.

1991tealRSt-topGuy 03-20-2003 08:58 PM

IF its anything like the older DOHC 3.4's, its going to be an engineering nightmare and a POS to boot

F585 03-21-2003 04:45 AM

This was in Car Craft "Displacements ranging from 2.8 to 3.8 liters with direct-injection and turbocharged versions to come. Power output will range from around 200hp to more then 370hp with torque ratings from 200 lb-ft to over 350. the first version of the global V-6 will displace 3.6 liters and make about 255hp." If GM does bring back the F-body's you think will see some of these motors in them?

Keoki_Firebird89 03-21-2003 07:19 AM

if it works... hellz ya... MOTOR SWAP!!! lol
only if its reasonable when dropping in.
if not... forget it...

KED85 03-21-2003 07:27 AM

This is the one I mentioned a few weeks back.
First application will be in a Caddy.
DRAG PART
The exhaust manifolds will fit our 60* BUT they seem to NOT have provisons for an EGR set up on passenger side exhaust manifold. The one pic I have seen in Car Craft doesn't show passenger side of mill.
DAMN DAMN DAMN!
IN THIS LATEST DESIGN, GM seems to go back to the DOHC set up, YET it HAS TO BE DIFFERENT as even GM admitted that THE ORIGINAL 60* DOHC set up WAS A NIGHTMARE of reliability.
This new design 60* mill looks exactly like what we all want,
the better flowing FWD head & matching intake and exhaust manifolds for using on a a RWD chassis.
The NEXT 60* mill I insert into my Firebird (IF I still have it in future) will be a V-8 Northstar Caddy mill! My 85 Blazer will go low tech with a V-8 Carb 350 Chevy Mill.
I am very tired of electronics & stuff.
UNLESS it's in brand new vehicle.
Let the warranty people handle the headaches.

Who can offer me the GM part nuumber for a V-6 60* 1985 EGR valve?

Karl --

Is the EGR on your car original? If it is original (on the 'Bird or Blazer), the original part # will be embossed in the disc part of the valve.

FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN INFORMED ABOUT......
IF your EGR is BLACK, it's a replacement
IF COPPER colored, it's original
NOW having dealt with GM very often, the PART NUMBER ON THE ITEM IS NOT THE CURRENT PART NUMBER!
Thus, I'm hoping if anyone got a recent EGR from GM, they could toss me the part number they purchased.
I've left a message with GM Parts direct to see what it may be.
I even have the microfisch printouts for my V-6 60* 1985 PVC set up & OF COURSE that part number is not present.
The printouts are from recent like 2002.
GM likes to superced part numbers alot.
That's exactly why I'm hoping to find someone else having done this EGR dance, already.
Atleast my EGR doesn't act up once the engine is warm.

MDv6man 03-21-2003 11:04 AM

Really.... Black is a replacement?

My 85 was bought with 65,000 miles on the clock. I distinctly remember it being black. I can't confirm whether or not it was original but with that little mileage...

Come to think of it my 86 also had a black EGR on it. I believe that was original also.

Maybe the history/resto board could help out.

17110799 gm part#, 67.54 here in the sticks.

crosses over to 214-5315 acdelco
egr107 in wells.

BTW, that is for automatic.

KED85 03-21-2003 11:49 AM

here in the sticks

ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW MUCH PROPERTY YA CAN BUY IN THE STICKS for what I buy a shoebox for in SoCal!

MANY THANKS!!!!
WELLS?
Explain please you mention cros over.
I KNOW of the ACDELCO cross over
Wells is the same thing?
I was "warned" not to get an over the parts store parts counter EGR as they have "fixtures" to adapt to any other application.

PS My color notation was offered by another person whom is quite knowledgable.
Yet, we all make mistakes, yet this guy is generally right on.
The color callout is all I can "offer" not first hand knowledge.
I'm still awating my response from customer service at GM parts direct.com
AMAZING how ya can punch in EGR or spell it out & "thaht part does not compute"!"

Dale 03-21-2003 12:45 PM

Wells is just another brand. Thats what zone sells. Personally, don't recommend it.

That GM part # came strait from my local delership.

Kj Rockz 03-21-2003 05:09 PM

If it will work, I want one.....

devianb 03-21-2003 06:36 PM

I have a replacement egr valve that I got from autozone. It works just fine.

That new engine sounds great, but it would cost a lot to do the swap because although its a 60 degree engine, its a different flavor DOHC instead of pushrod and uses what ever computers they use in new GM vehicles.

You would still have to swap the wire harness, computer, and possibly the transmission. You would have to swap just as much or possibly more than any other non 60 degree engine swap.

I would pass on that one.
