Can I use this auto-box oil?

Hi Guys,

I’ve got a question I’m hoping you can help me with. Ok, I’ve come by some new Comma AQF automatic transmission fluid that a friend has given me (10 liters) and I was wondering if it would be safe to use in my 700R4.
The service manuals recommend Dexron 2 or equivalent and this oil says it meets exacting Ford ESP-M2C33G/F requirements. It’s also safe to use in Borg Warner boxes and steering pumps too.
I want to change the auto box oil before I put the Bird back on the now salt free British streets, but don’t want to ruin it with doggy oil.

All help appreciated Speed.

call the manufacturer & find out. The AAmco & Castol Dexron/Mercon each specify f*rd & gm requirements, but not that specific ford refrence.

Fords have more friction modifiers in their trans fluid. It's been said that Ford's clutches need all the extra help they can get!

I wouldn't use it in my car, though.

Is it still in the box? If it's brand new, maybe you can bring it back to any store, tell them your friend bought you the wrong kind as a birthday present, and you really needed Comma AQ3 or AQM instead of AQF! The names are so close that the store might believe it was a real mistake.

I'm not sure if you know this, but you can use Dexron III fluid- Dexron III is the "new" fluid- it might be hard to find Dexron II fluid anymore.

Something I just realized... my Valvoline trans fluid says it meets Dexron III and Mercon (Ford) spec. Hm.

Thank's for the info guy's, there's no chance I can take it back to a shop. My friend worked in a garage (since moved) and he had it lying about so he let me have it.
Looks like I'm gonna go splash out on some Dexron III I guess. I'm not going to risk ruining the box it's running soo sweet.
BTW Took the bird out for the first time this afternoon for a proper run since storing it back in October, and she run's just as sweet:)

Thank's again. . . . Speed.

If its what I think it is a partial synthetic ATF its safe to use. Certian transmissions require different types of friction modfiers this fluid just happens to be made for these type of transmissions. Just like mopar dextron III+, its all about the additives.

I didn't see anything on Comma's website about it (at http://www.commaoil.com )...
