can i get an admin to stickey this plz gonna add more stuff later |
I vote for sticky as well. Mods, I have a feeling that this V6 forum will be flooding with members in the months to come. Dave's dedication to V6 F-Body performance is without question, and his research with Turbo's, as well as aftermarket performance, will definitely help out a lot of newbie's.... :) |
:iagree: I for one vote to make this a sticky as well,.,.Also im greatfull for (daves12secv6) and others input to this forum., ive learnd so much and continue to learn all the time.,.,.,.,Thanks:thanks: |
The water pump isn't a proper listing. The 660s use a very different water pump than V8s and other V6s. Just skimming through the rest seems to be listed alright. |

good list. the only thing thats really missing is the pain......there is still the little off brand parts places.....remember the overly expencive intake. then there is that one company that reworks the heads and sells them. and the one thing you forgot was the mallory dist. at summit |
Suspension Restoration Parts Co. - G.M Truck, polyurethane suspension bushings this one is for poly engine mounts. |
sad thing is lots of stuff is built for 82-89 and not for 90-92 3.1Ls.. i want an aftermarket intake fior my 91 :( |
sticky......................... do it. |
no aftermarket TPI intakes for a 3.1? I really want to build this thing up slowly over time, and when I swap the V8 into the car I'll have a stout 3.1 to swap into the Toyota 4x4 |

Daves12sec, cool list! Closest I ever found to a better water pump was the Meziere's line of electric remote pumps; but yeah, they're pricey, back when I looked it was > $300 for a remote pump that was "streetable" (versus track-only). Sogabe, actually, most of that stuff works for you too- except an intake. Don't forget us 2.8 MPFI guys don't have an intake either. A carb'd intake is only for 82-84 models. That's part of the fuel-injected 2.8/3.1 "curse"... no intakes. DrDave88, thanks for the poly mount link! Have you used their products on an f-body? I had heard that the 4.3 V6 poly motor mounts were the same as V8 mounts; will they really work on 2.8 f-bodies? |
i bought them, i have them sitting in the garage. i had one of the mounts out but i didnt have enough time to drill the clamshell apart and get it in before my shop was gonna close so i had to throw it back together. theyre a nightmare to take out, lol. but yes they will fit. theyre for the 2.8 s10s and similar, which share the same mounts as our cars. |
bump, hate having to search for this everytime i want to find something |
im hoping to get something going this winter to get the motormounts out of my car and get the new ones in over the winter. just gotta find a way to get a cherrypicker up to me (1.5 hrs away) w/ only driving a cavalier, lol. |
anyone else have more parts to list |
|
hypertech makes a coil that fits. accell makes a coil and ICM that fits. IIRC, crane makes roller tipped rockers in 1.6 and 1.52 cam, the melling MTC-5 melling has a high volume oil pump. jet also made pullys, but I had problems getting the proper one sent to me  sorry I dont know the part numbers off the top of my head. |
The melling MTC-5 at summitracing.com: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku part# MEL-MTC-5 summit seems to be the only place I can find that has it. :welcome: |
what about V8s I know that you are more interested in V6 parts but i was wondering if you could make a list of good engines to put in. |
any of the 60 degree engines are a good upgrade. the 3.4 swap is the best for the money. any other engine swaps (aside from a v8 swap) are not easy to do and arent very well documented. project85 did a 3800 swap but it never really made it completely, so i dont think hell call it sucessful. |
I HAVE FOUND A SOURCE FOR THE V6 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS AND PROPER CONVERTERS http://www.performabuiltautomatics.com/ they do not list the 660 auto trans specifically or the converters but contact and let them know ur needs, they have transmissions and converters instock they come highly recomended on another board i am on |
automatic sucks Dont convert to an automatic transmission MANUEL TRANSMISSION ALL THE WAY ---------- where can i find performance V6 engines (drop-in turn key) for my 91 camaro |
not in drag racing were consitancy is needed, and auto is better, also in a case of a turbocharged engine an automatic car will be faster since u dont lose boost on gear changes |
Dave, new sig looks slick! - did you use photoshop? Not to mention when running turbo, I hear it's best to have auto for the simple fact that you can hold the brake while slightly step on the accelerator to get your RPM's up enough to take off under boost. |
for driving i dont know whats best for drag racing but i no that manuel is more fun to drive with |
That really depends on your definition of fun. |
|
depending on how cheap (and mileage/condition) you can find a 3.4 in a junkyard, just get that and mod that. itll probably be cheaper, as long as you dont have to do any work on the short block or major head work. i got my 3.4 engine w/ all the accys. shipped from florida to michigan for $750. check ebay, theyre always cheap there.

anyone ever head anything good or bad about these guys? I wanna do a new engine for the maro but there is not much out there. Maybe i should just get the HT 3.4 from SDPP for like 1800 bucks. |

I'm not by any means a v6 guy, but i want to swap one into a chevette. What's the difference in years of 60 degree v6's? 82-89 or 90-92? plus since the 3400 v6 in an Alero, etc is based off the same 60 degree block, can't i just go backwards in technology and make it stupid and MPI instead of SFI ? otherwise they're all the same size other than intakes right? |
Posted in the wrong thread, This is a sticky for you to list 60* performance parts... Maybe this link will help you (Click Here) |

We are more specialized in the J-body, but welcome any platform, and have quite a few members with extensive knowledge of the 660 of all generations. |
Re: after market parts for 60* motors V8 rocker arms work fine if the heads are drilled and tapped for 7/16" rocker studs, v8 lifters drop in too which opens up the use of rhoads lifters and solid rollers (but only rollers with a flat base will work, chamfered ones expose the oil hole, which means no oil psi and crying) but you'll need custom pushrods made. www.fierostore.com has Probe forged pistons and moly rings for the 2.8 and NOS makes a nitrous kit for the 3.4. Don't forget GM's (expensive) aluminum racing block, not aftermarket but worth mentioning. |

Re: after market parts for 60* motors Crap. I wish I would've known that before I put alum rockers on my 2.8. |

since youve got a camaro. your intake setup already flows more than youll ever need. and its a factory cold air intake, its in front of the radiator. if you put a cone filter on under the hood, youll be sucking warmer air than you are now. if you had a firebird, that would be a different story. just cut the bottoms of the boxes off yours now and throw some K&Ns in and youre as good as youre gonna get. also, just about anything for a 2.8 will work on a 3.1. theyre almost identical except for the 3.1 has a few more cubes and is speed density (better). do a search about the air box gutting. doward posted some really good pics a couple of years ago on this, youll notice a bit more pull on top end. but remember, youre already running a v8 intake setup. how much better can you get? :hmmm: need a cold are kit for 3.1 v6 or 2.8 i have it 92 Camaro RS green/gold Heritage Edition suprechared with nx Custom Cold Air Intake (2.8 - 3.1) Why pay $200 for a professional intake from SLP (which was designed for V8's) when you can easily make your own for about $60? Not only is it cheaper, but this way you will have a better flowing K & N air filter rather than a generic one from SLP. It is easy to make it yourself, and this installation guide will show you exactly what parts you will need, price estimates, and how it is done. This custom cold air intake will get you between 7- 10 horsepower. __________ Parts needed: 3" PVC Pipes (~ $12 for all 4 pipes) -90° elbow -45° elbow -straight pipe (exactly 9 inches long) -adapter (one side with thread inside) K & N Air Filter (3" cone shaped) (~ $50) -Part # RE-0810 You can find the PVC pipes at your favorite hardware store such as Lowe's or Home Depot. The K & N Filter will have to be a special order from your local auto parts store such as Auto Zone or Pep Boy's. Most parts stores will not have the item in stock since this specific filter is meant for custom applications. It can also be found on the internet from places like Summit Racing, part # KNN-RE-0810. Here is what your engine will look like after this modification. Next, if you car has a computer, you will want to drill a hole for the air sensor, about 5/8" wide, into the 45° elbow. Make sure it is in the correct place. You may need to file the hole if it does not fit to allow a secure fit for the sensor. If you make the hole too big, you can always wrap electrical tape around the thread of the sensor for a tighter fit. Now you can assemble part of your intake. Insert the adapter into the 45° elbow. Make sure you forcefully connect them, allowing a tight, secure fit. Take the K & N filter and insert the rubber opening into the threaded side of the adapter. Push the filter all the way in so it will not fall off. It is now time to cut the straight tube to the correct size. My tube measured exactly 9 inches. I recommend you test it to make sure that is the right size for you. Place the 90° elbow on the end of the rubber intake tube and place the end with the filter in the correct place in the engine compartment. Measure the length for the straight tube. Once you have the tube cut, you can assemble the entire cold air setup. Then place it in the engine and attach the end to the intake hose. Wrap some electrical tape at the place where the 90° elbow and rubber hose meet for added security. I could feel a very noticeable difference especially at high speeds. Now go for a drive and listen to that intake scream. |

u dont have to drill and tap the heads, comp cams makes a direct bolt in studs that are the right size to use sbc rockers |

Re: after market parts for 60* motors Hello everybody, Mike in Manila checking in again after many years of absence. I originally thought about replacing the 2.8 in my 3rd gen with one of my spare SBC's but was reluctant to sacrifice handling. I'll be lurking silently in the background while reading up on all the stuff I've missed. Thanks to all for everything already posted. Cheers! Mike |
