Gauge Question
 

Basically, I pulled a V8 cluster out of the junkyard, and I cant use it because the tach will be off. Someone on these boards suggested that I swap the speedo. If I do this, my speedo will be accurate, right? I also want to swap out the oil pressure gauge so I have some numbers on it, this will read correctly as well right?

I have an 87/88 f-bird speedo from 3800 swap doing nothing, it should line right up if you need it ( for itty bitty fee ;) ). should only take like a day to ship from dayton too ;)

if u swap in the whole v8 cluster the tach will read 250 rpms low.not sure if u can just swap out the speedo part,never tried to seperat the gauges individually

All the guages bolt into the cluster individually and can be removed and installed individualy.

The speedometer is exactly the same regardless of engine. 120mph, 140mph, both will swap in and work accurately. Same goes for the volt gauge and gas gauge. The oil pressure guage will be different, because the V6 guage has a higher maximum pressure then the V8 guage. A V8 oil pressure guage might read accurately, but it will max out before the actual pressure reaches it's maximum. As already mentioned you'll want to keep your 6cyl tachometer since the V8 tach is calibrated differently and won't read correctly without modifying the circuitry.

ps: forgot to mention, your V6 tach has a higher redline then a V8 tach. Also, if you're just trying to get a oil pressure guage with numbers, most V6's with full instruments have the numbers printed on them, my 91 did.

If I remember correctly when I switched from "idiot lights" to gauges I had to change the oil presure sending unit.
