I need pictures of your 3.1L V6's! I have a 3.4L in my Trooper and I'm mixing and matching parts to make it fit better in the engine bay. In the process, I'm switching to the better flowing 3.1L intake. I would like pictures of some complete engines so I can figure out how this is all supposed to go back together. |

Re: I need pictures of your 3.1L V6's! Awesome, that is very helpful! Do you have any pics with the A/C and power steering. How is the belt routed? Are there any additional idler pulleys? Looks like the fuel rail is mounted opposite of the 3.4. I'll have to come out the back with my steel lines. But I don't have a distributor, so that's easy. I'll have to find (make) a place to mount my coil packs, MAP and evap. Have any extra parts from that project? |

All, but 1, of those pics are not from my project...they look almost identical...but my engine is the last pic, and you can see the belt routing. Extra parts? I have almost everything from the heads...up. I am going with the 3x00 heads, intake, ignition, etc. So I have pretty much everything just sitting around. |
Re: I need pictures of your 3.1L V6's! Ah, little different than the Trooper. I have a pic where I was mocking up the 3.1 intake with the Trooper brackets. You can see some of the conflicts. I think the power steering pump mounts the same as the Trooper, but the A/C compressor is too close. Also the A/C lines would cross right in front of the engine where the 3.1L TB will be. Re: I need pictures of your 3.1L V6's! Hi, I know just enough to get myself in trouble with engines. Quick question, in the top picture...what is that part that is on the right side of the engine? I think the pulley on that part has frozen up on my trooper. Not really sure, I burned through a belt last night after going through some fairly high water and there has already been a high pitched sound coming from that area. I thought it was just a loose belt due to my tensioner being worn out, but now I am not sure. I have not gone to get a new belt yet and see if it is moving, but it is the only pulley that does not move freely with the engine off...other than the crankshaft pulley. I have tried to find an answer online and through my manual, but I can't seem to figure it out. I think it is part of the fuel system, but again not really sure. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. Thanks Jason |
Re: I need pictures of your 3.1L V6's! Are you talking about the right side being the passenger side or the drivers side. The black part on the top is left is the air conditioning compressor. The grey one on the right with the little fan blades is the alternator. |

Need to get my limited slip installed too. :D I have a stock 2.8 TBI Trooper that I'm driving right now. Be cool to have a side-by-side comparison (drag race maybe?). Turns out what I was looking at is the smog pump...I don't know if that's the official term but a buddy of mine pointed me in the right direction. I did not realize how many trooper fans were out there until I spent all this time trying to find out what this part was. Its pretty inspiring reading your stories and I am hoping to start the process of turning my trooper around and getting her pretty again. Good luck on yall's projects. |

Re: I need pictures of your 3.1L V6's! Yeah, we just had some massive water drop on the city and I had to go get my wife who was stranded in a parking lot turned island. This made the second time in a few weeks that I have had a chance to drive my trooper through some high water which is the closest I have gotten to 4X4 heh. Anyways, I think the water dumping all over the smog pump was the final nail in the coffin. I will go check those sites out. I am wanting to start turning my trooper back around...just have to figure out where to start. |

Re: I need pictures of your 3.1L V6's! This is a little embarrassing, considering it's five years later, but I'm just now revisiting this project. I actually rediscovered my own thread from a Google image search when I found a picture of my own engine... So here's the deal, to get my 4x4 back on the road before winter, I slapped the original TBI setup back on. I'd always intended to go back to MPFI, but five years went by and my Trooper was working pretty well so I never bothered to take it apart again... I recently started experimenting with MegaSquirt on my Trooper to familiarize myself with the system for another project I'm on. Long story short, I ruined my injectors and lit my megasquirt on fire. Ooops. Lesson learned. So, I'm breaking the MPFI gear out of the boxes (literally, I moved a year ago). I think I've fixed the MegaSquirt board, but I also have a 1227727 I could use. I'm really not worried about the electronics now, that I can handle (and I know how not to light my ECU on fire now), I'm back to chasing down all the random little brackets. I'm going to make it work this time. |
