Intake system Change I'm swapping my 2.8 L for a 3.4 right now and it looks like the 3.4 Intake is a little better than my Mpfi. I there anyway I could put that intake on mine without getting a custom burnt prom or could I just change my throttle body off of it to something thats bigger for my CAI. ------------------ Josh 1989 Firebird Working the 2.8 to 3.4 swap with a 5 speed. From what I've read, you'll need to keep the 2.8 intake. there is still that cold start valve to think about. wait for KED or others that did the swap for the full low down on this. did search, here is link: https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/...ML/001462.html [This message has been edited by Project: 85 2.8 bird (edited December 03, 2001).] |
HI Please read that thread to UNDERSTAND why one CANNOT USE the 3.4 intake. PS, it's the SAME BUMMER that also prevents us from using Alloy heads of the FWD cars, DRAT!!! Be content and get a spare intake THAT FITS YOUR CAR & MODIFY THAT ONE!! You'll win in the end. Promise. Sorry, but IF YA WANNA MAKE 3.4 intake FIT, inform us all. You will enjoy the results of your 3.4 swap, promise! I will again, as soon as I get a new fuel pump in tank! ------------------ Chat Soon, KED85 Karl 1985 Firebird 2.8 to 3.4 swap project for Smog Happy LA, CA |
i tried with a 3.4 intake onto my bottom intake manifold, didnt fit. There were no provisions for the a/c compressor bracket, the mount holes were in different places too. ------------------ 1972 Chevy Chevelle "Malibu" Hooker Headers, Flowmaster 40 series mufflers, accel 8.8 wires,Edelbrock performer intake Edelbrock Carb, Msd Blaster 2 Coil, Torque Thrust "D" wheels Coming Up Hei conversion, Msd digital 6, Stock Cowl Induction Hood, K&N Filter w/ Xtreme Air Lid Click here for my Malibu information In Memory of #3 Dale Earnhardt [This message has been edited by Graeme'sFirebird (edited December 04, 2001).] |
Hey Karl; I re-read the "boogie", and didn't see where you mentioned why the 3.4 intake wouldn't bolt up. What's the reason (that includes using the Gen II aluminum 2.8 heads)? Thanks! ------------------ -Tom P (Hot rodded 1986 Firebird 2.8l) |
Hey Tom. The item "Fits", as it is for our 60* engine family. What doesn't fit is the linkage you have on your current car. ANd hose fittings, etc. It's all different. Physically, it'll bolt up, but, nothing else can be attached, to make your car operate correctly. Unless you have ALOT of time to experiment. I didn't, so on went the dependable, reliable proven it works, 2.8 induction system. Really sucked, as the 3.4 set up did look quite righteous! ------------------ Chat Soon, KED85 Karl 1985 Firebird 2.8 to 3.4 swap project for Smog Happy LA, CA |
