first off this is a 92 RS 3.1 engine. been doing some cosmetic work on it and now its time for some under the hood time. bought it about a month ago from some guy who decided he wanted to play mechanic, he messed up a bunch of electrical and hoses. so now i gotta put them back!. so can any1 identify/tell me if this is right? the hose was missing. the red hose is what was missing. the blue was already there but it was cut off and the yellow is missing a hose too

the yellow is the heater control valve, it allows collant to flow threw the heater core when u move the temp selector to hot.

i dont recall exactly what line it gets hooked to but look on the firewall there should be a line comming out by all the wires for the blower motor, i belive it hooks to that hard plastic line comming out.

i know one is vacum to the heater controls in the car and one is the vacum line to the heater control valve but i cant rember were each is exactly but that hard plastic line comming out of the firewall nexto the heater box is sticking in my head for the moment

also u can remove that valve anf just plumb the hoses so the water is always circulating , those heater control valves usualy break and u get a huge coolant leak that u cant fix on the side of the road cause u need 2 hose caps to remove it.

every f-body i have owned that stupid heater valve has busted on me, every f-body i get now i either bypass it right off the bat or i goto the junkyard and grab one off an 80's monte carlo since they have the same valves except they are made out of metal instead of plastic

Yeah, when mine broke at the gas station after I bought the car it was no fun at all... Took me almost 2 hours to get the SOB bypassed...

The lines coming out of the heater harness are both black... You will know if you got the hookups wrong if the vent selector doesn't work and the air only comes out of the defroster (switch the lines between the heater control valve and the control head inlet coming out of the harness if this happens).

The blue line is supposed to run to the canister just like you have the red line doing.

i c. would that probably be the reason as to why when i turned my heater to heat i hear gurgling? i never actually checked if it was leaking anything. ive only turned it on once to check if it would work. in so cal there isnt much use for a heater. any idea if the other red hose would be in the proper place

thanks ill give it a try, didnt see you had already answered my question! thanks every1!!!! :D

Re: some help would be helpfull

it will be tough to see it will be on the passenger side of the car probably about behind the valve cover ,its going to be tough to get ur hand back there let alone see.
so u will prolly just have to stick ur hand back there and feel around.

the line will be one of those hard plastic vacum lines

or if u goto ur heaterboc/ac box and follow thw wires twards the center of the car u can run ur hand along that and it will lead u right to were they go onto the firewall

if all else fails while im working on my iroc tommorow i will take pictures too since i dont have th heater box in my car right now it will be really easy to see

thanks i would REALLLYYY appreciate that. i cant seem to find any thread with a diagram or a clear pic. what does that hose actually do? i know the other larger hoses carry coolant but whats the small one for? also as i was looking around back there i noticed 2 other tubes look like copper that weren't connected to anything. they were right next to each other. i was trying to take a pic but my camera battery died. ill try in a bit

these are the 2 copper looking pipes i found when i was looking for hard plastic connector hose. are these supposed to be connected to anything?? from the look of it looks like they used to drip something or vent something.

copper lines are to the heater core.

Re: some help would be helpfull

core probably leaked so they unhooked it. mine is like that :) dont need heat often enough to try n change it. gm had to burry it.

thatoneguy5x 05-04-2012 12:44 AM

Re: some help would be helpfull

so no need to hook them up unless i want heat? what about defrost? it wont affect anything else? isnt coolant supposed to run through those pipes?

project89 05-04-2012 05:29 PM

Re: some help would be helpfull

u do need them hooked up for defroster, but like gumby said the heater core prolly leaked and somone disconected them for that reason.putting a heater core in is a very crappy job on a f-body

u could try hooking it up and seeing if it leaks, if it does unhook it and get one of those 20$ car electric heaters u plug intot he cig lighter and use that to defrost the windows lol

Re: some help would be helpfull

have had no problem with defrost, crank on high and crack your window to equal the temps insde and out, fog is gone.

ic thanks you guys have been very helpful. i guess i wont really need it, ill probly fix it some other time.

but i have another question for you guys. i know bare with me. im new to this whole thing. ok so in the picture i highlighted my problem areas. the blue hose was there. not connected to anything. the red is where i think it should go. the yellow is where the blue was just hanging there cut. there is a cap on where the red is going but its all cracked and old. the green dot is an extra hose outlet with no hose(is it for the vacuum ball??). and i was wondering if the orange AC needs a cap, at the moment there isnt one. and what is the pink thing. its not in the haynes manual

i know alot of questions but im trying to get it all figured out.

Re: some help would be helpfull

Pink = cruise control (i think. i don't have it).
And yes, vacuum ball line & hose there on the right.

thatoneguy5x 05-05-2012 12:46 AM

Re: some help would be helpfull

cruise control isnt something i necessarily need. ill take it out. any1 know is the other ones are in the right place?
