Ebay 2.8 headers vs Pacesetter 2.8 headers

So I was gonna get the 2.8 headers off of Rockauto for around 240$ but they ran out of stock. So I found some on ebay for 200$$. Looked to be the same . I guess they are knockoffs. But now I'm just wondering if anyone has ran these without any problems? They look ok. Heres the link for the ebay ones. https://www.ebay.com/itm/172682129262

Re: Ebay 2.8 headers vs Pacesetter 2.8 headers

I can't speak for those specifically, but in general some people have had issues with ebay headers not quite lining up to the ports, having a hard time bolting them on without some kind of modifications. The big thing would be to see what their return policy is, then decide from there.

I would be SHOCKED if someone else out there decided to make headers for these things. brings a tear to my eye. but I'd bet they are made by pacesetter.

Hopefully they are. They appear to be well made. I will test fit them today see if the holes line up.

Went to remove my stock manifolds for a test fit. All the bolts came off except one, that broke off in the head. I was pissed off because it was coming out then all of a sudden, snap.. Thanks to harbor freight I was able to drill right through it with some left hand drill bits and a screw extractor. I've never attempted this and was scared I might break the bit or the screw ex. Just have to take your time and start with the smallest bit and move up from there. They fit great just had to move the oil dipstick out of the way. Wish I had gotten the coated ones better.

I think this was the one I had. It had a good sound, wasn't too loud for daily driving but definitely sounded good.

with dynomax you have 2 options. ultraflow or super turbo. I had super turbo and I liked it. now i'm running a custom setup with a single exit flowmaster 44 and I like it too.

I heard dynomax is not making catbacks anymore? I'm probably just gonna use my stock catback. I have a pair of american thunder flowmasters off a mustang, I'm thinking of just using one for a single out see how it sounds.

Using the stock catback kind of eliminates any gains you'd get from the headers. You choke the exhaust off by keeping it on there. The link I posted is for the dynomax system for our cars

those are probably just original 40 series then. Maybe 40 delta flow or super 40 or something. they have a lot of different kinds.

the benefit of buying a system is they come mandrel bent. If you get one built at an exhaust shop the pipes will crush down at the bends, but on our cars it really won't matter. If you have the coin i'd look into a borla XR-1 muffler to go with it. Those seem to make everything sound good.

I threw on a 2014 toyota corrolla sport oem muffler on there that I had laying around because I got tired of my dynomax. It really made it quiet and honestly It does'nt sound bad when you I get on it. Totally silent at idle. The y pipe on these headers measure 2 1/4 inch. Not sure how much the stock system measures but I bet around the same. Anyone know what the pacesetter y measures? What is the best size to go with ?

drdave88 11-14-2018 06:01 AM

Re: Ebay 2.8 headers vs Pacesetter 2.8 headers

According to a search on here, an old member measured the Y-pipe at 2.375". The general consensus is a 2.5" catback is the way to go

I wanna know if the ebay ones differ from the pacesetter ones. Anybody have pictures of the welds on the pacesetter ones?

maroe624 11-23-2018 11:01 PM

Re: Ebay 2.8 headers vs Pacesetter 2.8 headers

Well I'm having some fitment issues. The pipe that connects the driver side header to the passenger y pipe is a bit long and wont slip into the y pipe.. It's angled kinda weird and wont slip in. Gonna have to have trim it so it can slip in, maybe weld another piece in there so it can slip in.. Besides this, they bolted right in. Will post a sound clip once I get it welded and catback hooked up.

So I got them welded and fitted. sounded great, felt great. But today the passenger header to y pipe flange bolts backed out and blew the gasket (paper/cardboard). Anybody know the part number for that gasket? Or what material to use to make one?? Lmk, car was sounding great now sounds like shhhhhh.

Re: Ebay 2.8 headers vs Pacesetter 2.8 headers

I highly recommend remflex gaskets for the header gaskets where they mate to the head. they don't make one for the connection you're talking about but you can call pacesetter and they will send you another one for like $10. I did that myself, and then I lost the replacement they sent me. You can also get Remflex to send a sheet of material for you to make your own gasket. Remflex gaskets are made out of graphite and crush down to make a great seal. I love that they still make them for our 60v6s

I just ordered 2 gaskets from pacesetter, should be here in a few days. I'll be ordering some of those remflex gaskets too. Only a matter of time before the cheap header gaskets begin to leak. So far there ok. My header bolts seem to back out a bit after checking em every couple days. Should I use thread locker red?
Will post a sound clip soon.

I don't know, might try the blue first if you haven't already.

Hey so I fixed the leak. Car runs great. I was gonna post a sound clip.... but there's nothing to hear haha. This dam 2014 toyota corrolla sport muffler is too dam quiet. I also feel it's slowing me down a lot . I want my v6 power back. So I was thinking of the flowmaster american thunder I have but then again I don't want it too loud. Maybe a magnaflow hmm.

I really liked the dynomax catback when I had it.

Here's a soundclip with no muffler. Sounded pretty good at idle and revving bit when riding it sounded like shhhh. Sounds a bit choked out. Im looking into buying that dyno catback.

I would have titled that 3.1 V6 open headers. there's already a lot of no muffler vids, and <1% have headers.

Re: Ebay 2.8 headers vs Pacesetter 2.8 headers

So It's been raining here in L.A. for the past few days and I swear my car runs stronger and accelerates faster. I have a ram air intake right were one of my high beams goes. I had a theory that since my car runs a bit rich with the headers, me sucking up that cold air/water combined, leans out my mixture and hence it runs better. Or do I have it backwards? Not really sure what water does to the air and fuel mixture. Can someone chime in? Oh and just recently I started getting a code 13 for o2 sensor . Running rich?
