Verify wheel/spacer choices - please Car: 91 Z28 4th gen rear LS1 brakes Sportlines Adjustable panhard Lakewood rear LCA’s (boxed, not tubular) I’d like to order some new wheels. After countless hours of searching, I think I’ve made my decisions; however, I just want to post this here and see if my thought process is off at all. I’m looking at buying these for all corners: 18" Fits Chevrolet - Corvette C5 Deep Dish Wheel - Black Mach'd Face 18x10.5 WHEEL SIZE: 18x10.5 WHEEL OFFSET: 56 BOLT PATTERN: 5-120.65 HUB SIZE: 70.3 BACK SPACING: 7.95 http://www.oewheelsllc.com/Wheels_3/...-Wheel-Black_7 Car has a 4th gen rear, so no spacers needed in the rear. However, I want to get the spacer size just right for the front. Car has LS1 brakes. I read that this pushes the wheels out .3”. Looking at Skulte’s site, it shows a 1.7” adapter needed for 4th gen wheels. I was thinking a 1.42 or 1.46” adapter from www.motorsport-tech.com. To equal out having the LS1 brakes on. If my math is right, this would take the backspacing from 7.95 - .3 = 7.75. 7.75 – 1.46 = 6.29 (not sure if I’m doing this part right). I plan to buy 285/35/18 sumitomo’s. I don’t plan to do any racing on these wheels/tires; this is just for tooling around town and occasionally spirited driving sessions. The sumitomo’s also come in a 295/30/18, but I’m thinking that might be a little too short, and would look goofy. Can someone please help confirm my choices or offer up suggestions/points that I may not have thought of? Thank you. |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please I think my math was wrong for the adapters. Skulte's website shows a 4th gen wheel with a 56mm offset with a 2" spacer. So, since I have LS1 brakes, it should actually be a 1.7" spacer. I'm ready to order, just want to make sure I have my math correct. I'd really appreciate the help. |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please I have a set of 18x10.5's on mine and use 2" on the front with 285/35. I think 1.75 spacers should work out ok. 285/40's on the rear. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...d42b7c6c92.jpg |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please Thank you very much for the response. I appreciate the picture to show the stance. I went ahead and ordered the wheels and will order the adapters soon. I like your stance and it doesn't look like anything sticks out. What springs do you have? Is it lowered? |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please The front springs are moog 5662 cut down to 12" free length. The rear are the original 1984 z28 with one coil cut. They are the progressive ones with tightly wound coils at the top. My car is fairly light. No A/C, 5 speed. |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please Did you order the same wheel front and back? Same offset? Just ordered 4 of the exact same wheel? |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please Yes. All 4 were listed as 18X10.5, +58mm offset, 8.03" Backspace. They were selling for $138 a pair on ebay as a closeout so I picked up a set of 4. |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please Thanks for the reply. I was getting the after order jitters and was worried I overlooked something. Wheels should be in Tuesday. Tires are not ordered yet. Adapters have not been ordered yet. |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please 2 Attachment(s) So I also just installed LS1 brakes in the front and now the wheel sticks out way to far with 2" spacers. I felt that 2" was too much even before the brake upgrade. I am also leaning twards 1.5" spacers. Let me know what you get. Attachment 319673 In this picture the suspension isn't fully loaded but as you can see it sticks out a retarted amount Attachment 319674 |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please Wow. I don't know what went wrong. Your brake kit should have pushed it out .3". I thought you were buying 1.75" spacers which would have pushed it out .05" from where mine are. Here is mine with 2" spacers and 18x10.5 58 offset. No rubbing at all on the fender side and I have lowered a bit since this picture was taken. :( (edit) on my car a 1.75" spacer would put the inner rim in contact with the control arm at lock and be dangerously close to the struts. I have the 15" wheel option steering stops. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...67bfbd30ae.jpg |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please I have not ordered my adapters yet. I was leaning toward a 1.7, and this is helping confirm my choice. I will certainly post pictures once I get everything mounted. I did get the wheels in. They look great, just waiting on funds for tires. :) |
Re: Verify wheel/spacer choices - please Here goes a picture showing how much clearance I have to the strut. I cant even fit my finger between the bead of the tire and the strut. There is probably 1/4" clearance. Sry for the crappy pic. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...9755b4f022.jpg |
