Personally, I prefer the OEM machined finish...so I'd be a "no".

...but I do plan on eventually buying the machined "two stripe" 17's for my '88 IROC.

IIRC, the torque arm bracket is the same for T5/automatic...since you're in East Tennessee, the Pull-A-Part in Knoxville has a '92 V6 Firebird...the torque arm bracket might still be there.

Sounds a lot like a burned valve. At higher RPM, it’s not as noticeable. A compression test would confirm or eliminate the possibility.

The shop finished with the transmission...in addition to the other stuff, they installed bronze fork pads on the 1-2 and 3-4 forks. Only one small internal part was found to be missing. :)
