Re: Oil pan clearance with UMI K-member

My sump will easily clear fore-aft. It's the gap on top side of crossmember that I'm concerned about because the front of my pan is deeper to clear stroker cranks.

I have the Holley 302-1 pan. ...

Re: Oil pan clearance with UMI K-member

I'm enjoying the pictures and extra info in this thread. Just the kind of stuff I wanted to know.

I'm guessing you're focusing on fore-aft clearance between sump and crossember. How much space...

ZL1 brakes probably require at least a 18" diameter wheel. I would dig in deeper on that topic if I were in your shoes.

I agree, Nitto drag radial is garbage. Shouldn't even be allowed to call it a drag radial.

I've concluded the Mickey Thompson is the only real drag radial that can be safely driven on the street....

Re: Do Coil Springs Go Soft?

The proper term just came to my mind. It's called spring creep. Now that I remember the proper term I might be able to find something about it in my old textbooks.

Re: cold weather starting vs warm weather starting

Just to make sure I understand, are you saying that you have to crank the engine 3 or 4 times to get it to start in warm weather? But only on first start and not a warm restart.

For what it's worth, things change when using small diameter wire, such as valve springs, and it becomes a more complicated topic.

Re: Do Coil Springs Go Soft?

In the case of steel spring, the spring will never fail as long as the stress in the spring is low enough (it is a property called the endurance limit). Suspension coil springs are expected to last...

Re: Do Coil Springs Go Soft?

Coil springs don't really change spring rate over time but they do "take a set", meaning the compressed height can change over time. If the car got more floaty then that is due to shocks, not...

Dorman makes an affordable LS2 intake that would work well on your LQ4. I'm not certain, but if my memory serves me, the Dorman uses a bottom half from FAST and top half is Dorman.
