Dual exhaust picture collection ***HELP RE-READ***

UPDATED 5-19-2006

http://fbody.beater.org/

After a long time of the original picture collection being down I've finally put it up again. I'll be adding more pictures and redoing it all pretty soon ...I'm kinda lazy though.

A picture is worth a thousand words, and both those sites have alot of pictures

*****, how much did it cost to get that system done? Do you think it was worth it for the performance and sound?

Thanks for the info guys

Matt,

Before I had my exhaust done, no one I knew of had accomplished a true dual setup using the stock routing. Also, no one I knew of used a pair of chambered mufflers. All the pics of other systems I saw were crude, at best -- most had so little ground clearance that I would not be able to drive into my driveway. Most had mufflers hanging so low they were tacky looking. I like doing things slightly differently and decided that I was going to make it happen. I like to think I accomplished this. Because mine uses stock routing, ground clearance is not an issue and all the pipes look like they belong where they are.

The sound is awesome. Here's a sound clip:

http://www.iroc-zpostforum.com/MemberWillie.htm

It turns heads wherever I go. As for performance, I do not have before and after runs with only the exhaust being the difference. Therefore, I cannot quantify the improvement, if any.

The complete system was not cheap, but I did NOT cut any corners. I used very expensive mufflers and bought six 180 degree mandrel bends (to be cut to desired length by the installer). I also used a pair of Flowmaster "Ys" to act as an "X" pipe. The shop I had the work done charged $60 per hour, which included the straight sections of pipe. It took them five hours.

To minimize the cost, have the shop supply and bend all the pipe and do not use an "X" pipe. Also, use a much cheaper pair of mufflers and the cost would probably be half of what my total was.

Willie

sweet! I was just trying to decide on a way to run a true dual exhaust and I wanted to do it along the stock exhaust location...what I was wanting to do is already pictured so it will make it that much easier to do! Thanks for those great pics!

camaro picture u have..

Hey man whats up i was just wondering, do you have any more information on the red camaro that is first shown on that exuast page of yours that has dual 3" into X-pipe and out to 3.5" dynomax bullets. Is he a body or have a web page that has info on that car. I was just wondering bc i want to find out what size of rims and tires he has out in the rear. and just want some more pictures of his car, bc it looks good. I have a red z28 91 and it looks just like it minus the rims and hood. hope u can help, cya

I'll post pics of mine tommorow. I had a custom mandrel bent 3inch X pipe system with the traditional muscle car routing, and they had to install the mufflers in the rear location where the factory crossflow was installed. With hooker long tube headers, 3inch piping, x pipe and 3inch stainless magnaflows, it sounds badass. My car is lowered too, and it doesn't have any clearance issues except over steep dips or big speed bumps, which I can manuever over. I was really amazed at how the shop (eastside performance exhaust) tucked up the dual 3inch pipes so well on a thirdgen of all cars.

Hey you guys what kind of muffler is that, that is used on either side of the gas tank? Looks small and discreet. That isn't made by Borla is it?

you know, i thought that they would be louder than they are. inside i can still have a conversation with someone, they are really mellow for being a race muffler. i am not saying they are not quite by any means, but they are not obnoxiously loud. and they have a really cool bark when you step on it. i wish i knew how to post videos.

I have duals with 3" center in/out aerochambers and it's kind of loud. You can see right through the mufflers... Got a pic of it around here, I'll try and scan it in sometime. Anyways, I've been thinking hedman longtubes and the morosos. From everything I've heard they're more bassy than actually loud (unlike the bullets which barely muffle). I honestly don't think they're louder (or not by much) than my hookers. To have a converstaion in my car you have to raise your voice quite a bit. My dad doesn't even like riding in my car cause he says it's too loud, lol and he's a car guy! So what's your opinion 66nova? Oh, sound clips would be cool too...

honestly, depends on two things...
A. what you think is loud
B. what your cops in your area think is loud...

probably too loud for most peoples street cars, but i will drive mine everyday anyways...

here's my old one from last year (last spring 2002) my new exhaust (end of spring) consists of those same Muffs as Willie which are the Stainless Specielties Chambered Tube.. but this is the old setup....all 2-1/2" piping, 2 Dynomax Cats 2-1/2, 2 40 Series Flowmasters, out of side exits, 2 Borla Intercooled slash tips., surprisingly there was a fair amount of room under the car except that the mufflers were a lil too low, so that's why i got the chambered and there's alot more room now (no scapping or having to worry about it all the time)

currently no sound clips, i don't no how to post them though, even if i did have a recent one. i have a video with open exhaust, but that's it. anyhow. yeah, they muffle alot better than the bullets, but they are still pretty loud(but ya know what? i'm a 19 yearold kid having fun!)

The pic is of my car. The mufflers are made by Simons. Yes they are small. No they are not discreet by far. The sound they make is so loud, that when I go to my mothers at night time I wake up the whole neighborhood. I love it though (sorry for the spelling)

*UPDATE* the moroso spiral mufflers are mean sounding, but after driving for the last 4 days, i have found them to be annoyingly loud on the roads, cool for the race track, too much for the road. i will be upgrading(or downgrading) to a set of dynomax superturbo mufflers. i will let you know how they sound and i will post some pics after i get them installed...

Here's a pic of mine. I borrowed *****'s idea for the duals down the stock routing, but mine are slightly different.

You can see a description of how we did it, and a bunch more pics at my website in my sig.

I'm working on getting some pics of it mounted up on my car, but I made a design error on the front part so it hangs down about 3" lower than it should. As soon as I trim up the pipe I'll take some pics of it.

this is on the left side in order going from the header to the glasspack. from the glasspack it used to turn out and come out under the gfx but i cut it off right behind the glass pack

Car: Still a 3rd Gen
Engine: 450HP 355
Transmission: TH350
Axle/Gears: 9" with 4.11's
damn, i've only personally seen a true dual setup a few times on a 3rd gen, one was with some vette sidepipes and the other was my old setup with 2.5" side pipes off my shortie headers.

I'm just running a 2" crossover off the shorties Y'ed into 3" through the stock channel split into dual 2.5" at the back. No muffs

*loud and proud*

no tickets yet............

Yes, Hooker (hok-2460 - summit) shorties and a T-5. The picture above it is of the same car, which is a formula firebird (not that it really makes a difference...).
