1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Ok, I've searched and may not be searching in the right areas...
Today I saw a Yellow 91/92 Formula on the Interstate, long story short I pulled him over on the side of the highway. He said it was a 92 and he has owned it since 1993. He said he purchased it as a demo car (still had local dealer decal on the rear bumper.) It had many miles and was sort of rough but the body was very straight and rust free. Had TPI, 5 speed, rear disc brakes (G92), t-tops, black interior and black lace rims.
How many yellow cars were built in 91 and 92? Where can I find the info? Seemed rare and odd..... No camera to take pics.
Thanks for the help!!

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
It was a 92 only 25th anniversary color like Quasar Blue and Jade Grey Metallic. The Jamaica yellow just never did it for me as it's a fadded banna cream type ugly yellow. Porsche's yellow is much more rich as an example for compare.
I have all of the VIN #'s off hand for 1992 U.S. production but not completely broken down by color yet as I need more RPO's on most of the Vins.
Sorry I can't help more. I'm sure some one here has an educated guess though.

Here ya go Sir,
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...hoto-91-a.html
We've discussed this a few times in the past. I am still looking for my JY 92 GTA, or Formula or TA.
I like how you actually pulled the guy over on the highway to talk to him. Sounds like something I would do...

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Thanks! Good info. Is this published anywhere?
I figured there weren't too many around. It needs some TLC but the black lace rims look good and he said there was a build sheet.
The guy had his grandson strapped in a car seat up front with the drivers side T-Top off. He pulled over b/c he thought something was wrong w/ the car. Trucks were flying by about 75mph and we couldn't hear very well so phone numbers were exchanged. It's probably worth looking at again?

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
IMO, any JY 92 car is definitely worthy of the time spent to look at it. Then again I am particularly fond of those cars. It is interesting that it had the black crosslace wheels but was a 5 speed car. Of course that means that it is a 305 car unless it was changed over at some point. The only time I have seen black crosslace wheels on a 92 Formy is when had an L98 and TTOPs, I'd check to see if this might have been an original L98 car that some one put a 5 spd in. If that is the case, and it is a JY 92 L98 CC1 car, then you have yourself a hell of a find and I would make an offer on it, restore it and have a really rare car. Really rare. Let us know if you talk to the guy again.

He said it was purchased in 1993 as a demo model, he was the first real owner w/ 19k original miles at the time. It had 5.0 on the hood and all the original stickers were on the car. Car was dirty but I couldn't find any rust. I remember looking at the T-Top seals and couldn't find a paint line. I couldn't look much further as cars were driving by too fast.
The pitina on the car looked very original. He was an older man who didn't know much about the car so that made me think it was completely legit. I asked if the motor had been rebuilt or the clutch changed out....he stated it was all original.
5.0 TPI
5 Speed
Disc Brake Rear
Black Crosslace Rims
If he sells would you guys kill me if I painted it corvette yellow with an LS1/2 - 6 speed combo? I love stock cars but this was is just rough enough around the edges that I wouldn't feel too guilty.....

Hmmmm...being a JY fanatic I would feel less than pleasant but given the fact that it would be part of your collection I know it will be done with style and taste. But, if that's what you want to do then why even bother with that particular car? You can always find a non JY Formy easy enough. Being that there were only 26 total JY cars, I would use another car for your project and forward me this guy's number. hehehe... I would repaint that thing and do a mild resto just to be able to say that I finally have a JY 92 car!

wow one of 26.. great find.. this might be the epitomy of them all :-o
Don't buy it and mod it.. its like finding a yellow yenko with a 427 and four speed, and putting an ls1 in it with a 6 speed and different rear end. then painting it orange.. :-o lol sorry harsh but sorta true I vouch for it Staying original!

In 2002 PHS brought a Yellow 1LE LB9/M5 Vin to the TA nats, and they announced that it was a 1 of 26 Yellow cars in 1992... I Suspect that it is 1 of 26 FORMULA's...

I might delete your first post... then I would be first... Hehe...
I think I might be in a REAL doghouse if I bought another 3rd Gen right now... But I have wanted a 92 Yellow FORMULA 350 with T-tops and the Black Cross laced Wheels for a while... Granted its a LB9/M5 but thats close enough...

I'm proud to say I own the doors from one of the '92 JY GTA 305/5speed cars. I think I still have the number for the guy that owns the car, if anyone would be interested in the wrecked shell.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Well, went out for a look at the car and ended up bringing it home.
Incredibly rare? SLP performance car in addition to being yellow.
Purchased from reluctant original owner. His wife said the owner of the dealership ordered it new until it was sold at 19k miles. The dealership owner stated it was specially ordered as one of a kind.
It's 100% original. The owner has done nothing but drive and maintain the car. It needs a serious clean up.
Here are a few pictures.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
I have no idea what I'm going to do w/ it.
I really don't have room but I'll figure out a way to move some stuff around and get it inside. If anything it will just set in the corner until the boys are old enough to show interest in restoring it.....or??
It was built in August of 1991 and not sold until June of 1993?

VERY nice! That makes the 3rd 1992 Firebird I've ever seen with the SLP Package, my GTA included in those 3.
FYI, the SLP tunes are bad for running rich so you might want to pull the chip, store it, and re-do the tune.
Congrats!

Was the SLP performance package a dealer installed option or was the car ordered and shipped to SLP before being sent to the dealer.....or could it be either or?? How much did the package cost?

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Dealer installed or self installed only. Mine was financed with the car and installed by the selling dealer. It should have a supplemental window sticker like what dealers usually add for like adding wheels or something.
http://www.transamgta.com/Webmaster/SLPkit.html
Mine was listed for like $3,600 because the dealer charged for installation but the actual cost should have been like $2100
Also be sure you have the C.A.R.B. stickers for the headers on the passenger door like mine in the link above. Headers that old did not have C.A.R.B. plates welded onto their tubes until the late 90's.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Heck.....I'm not sure what I'm really going to do with it. I don't buy things to flip but at the same time I don't really have a plan for this one?
I didn't steal the car....I paid what a normal 92 Formy would go for. In fact I would not have purchased if it wasn't a yellow T-Top car.
He had no idea how unique or rare the car was and he only sold because I was a collector and he wanted the car restored back to it's glory.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Ok, here's the real dilemna...so I purchased this cool yellow car and he happened to take me in the garage and there was a certain 50's Chevrolet convertible piled under a mountain of stuff. On closer look it was all original, rust free and setting in his garage for over 28 yrs. The interior even looked very nice. It would be the perfect car to drop a LS1/2 and some billet rims to have the ultimate unrestored cruiser for the power tour.
To make matters worse I need another car like a hole in my head but I'm thinking of selling the 93 cobra and one other car to free up some room in the shop?
Am I krazy?

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
Oh yea, and there's that one other small problem..... car's cost money to play with....and I have stupid money tied in cars. It's all for the love of the game because cars are by large a horrible investment regardless of what anyone says.
I need to sell some stuff to free up space and generate $$$$ before tying up new money in another bottomless pit....
I showed pics of the yellow car to my wife and she really likes it (although she hasn't seen it in person yet.) I was actually surprised she didn't bite my head off when I told her about it..... Right now we're in the hospital and just delivered our 4th boy so if you would really like to have the car shoot me a PM and we can talk. To let go of the car it would have to go to a good home.
Of all the third gen crap I have it's funny how this yellow car seems to be so popular.

Of course there is the option of adding on to your storage facility...

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
That is a clean looking Formula I would keep it all stock. Here is my JY Formula. Well its not really a Formula anymore. She was very rough when I got her, so I went ahead and made a GTA clone out of it. The only reason I even saved this car is because it was a JY car.

It is a factory TPI 305 car, but it has the TPI 5.7 motor, tranny, disc brake rear end, dual cat exh, & everything from the GTA. The yellow is a little brighter then from the factory.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
These are the only other pics I can find of it right now. I will have to go through some old files from a few years ago when I first bought it. I hope I saved them. I have all the pics before and after paint. The firewall and strut towers are still the correct JY . I told the paint shop to match the factory yellow, but they could not, so the paint job didnt cost me much. I thought the car looked to good to repaint it again. I am sure a few years down the road I will have it painted to the corret yellow. It does have some flaws and I have been useing it as a daily driver.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
All you would need is the Spoiler and the Hood to make it "Look" like a GTA or Trans Am, of course the stickers too..
I actually bought a 91 Firebird that had the GFX for parts... Interestingly it had a 91-92 Formula Hood & Front Bumper... I wnet out and foudn a rear Formula bumper in a junkyard for $50... Just so I have a set... I got the rubber backing too for it, just in case I ever want to convert a car over to a 91-92 Formula...

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
So who purchased that yellow 6 cylinder off Craigslist in Chicago? Someone on the board?
On the Yellow Formula.....I stopped by the owners house again. He finally found the original paperwork including the build sheet and original invoice showing the "performance parts" were not covered under warranty. Documentation shows the car had 118 miles when the SLP parts were installed and the owner took delivery.

Re: 1992 Yellow Formula Production Numbers
No one that I know of, I spoke to the guy and he was asking a bit more than expected. He wanted $2200, and that is just too much. I was thinking 500-1000 max. If it was a Formula in exact same condition then ok $2200 is fair, but not for a V6 Firebird.
