Autoform Roadster Registry
#1
Autoform Roadster Registry
This is long overdue. It’s time to see if we can get owners (and sellers) of these Autoform roadsters to post info on their cars.
This should be easy, since Autoform placed an I.D. label in the driver side door opening. Here is what we need from you:
1. Model year:
2. Model: (Firebird, TA, Formula, Berlinetta, Z28, etc)
3. Color:
4. Autoform Production # on door:
5. Date of conversion:
6. Location of conversion (Bremen, IN or Elkhart, IN or ??)
If you find one for sale or at a car show, please get the AutoForm number and add it to this registry.
And….don’t forget photos(if possible)!! You can add more info if you like.
I am hoping we can find some trends and start to interpolate production numbers.

I own two, but one of them is missing the label on the doors. The info on the other is the following:

Re: Autoform Roadster Registry
a friend of mine is the second owner of an 84 autoform trans am. the car originally came w/large scooped hood(no hood pins) that blew off @100+ and graphics on the sides that said wildfire anyone know ANY history on this car? he has owned it for ever(less than 2 years old when bought) he swares it would roast the tires in 1st and 2nd(700r4 auto)and still bust 145mph says he was ticketed @138 once. I am a mechanic and H/P nut I have a problem with a 4bbl comp. controlled 305 being so potent!! he wants me to help get it back to its former glory and I don't think I can get there from whats in the car. also states he smoked corvettes and 911's in 1/4 mile street races and road courses. it does have koni shocks and larger than stock springs/swaybars. any help would be appreciated!!

Re: Autoform Roadster Registry
Hey just seen this post here is the info that I have as of right now.
1. Model Year 1984
2. Model: Camaro Berlinetta
3. Color: White
4. AutoForm #: A4-01544
5. Date of Conversion: Unknown at this time.
6. Location of Conversion: Elkhart, IN.
I am in the middle of restoring this car right now. I will get some pics on here as soon as possible. I am needing help with finding out what door and window seals was used when the conversion was done. Not sure if they used the coupe or T-tops. Any suggestions will help. Thanke.

Re: Autoform Roadster Registry
For anyone reading this, I want to clarify the story on missnanc's '87 Autoform. She states in an earlier thread that the car was converted by a previous owner using AutoForm parts. This explains the late model year. This car was not converted in '87 by AutoForm. It is believed that AutoForm was out of business by then. Great car, nonetheless, and thanks for posting it here.

Re: Autoform Roadster Registry
helsredz28 - Can you please look for a date located near the Bremen, IN sticker? That will help us build our timeline.
Shawnpe33 - Can you please verify your number and date? Your number and date do not jive with our sequencing so far. If you are correct, we have a problem. (by the way, I also live in KC) See the top post. I edited it to include your info.

Re: Autoform Roadster Registry
I'll go a head and add to this since I had two, but sadly they were both stolen in South Florida; one in Hollywood and the other in North Miami. They were both Camaros. One with a 700r4 and the other a 5sp. One had Recaro seats with the fishnet head rest. They were both white. They both had the 305h.o. motors. I still have th titles for the, but would have to search.
My original screen name here was The Devils Mentor and Devils Mentor. I actually started the whole Autoform thing here, back on 2001, but when I had mine. No one here believed they even existed, back when I posted about mine. Talk about waaay back memories, lol...
I was starting a registry, and even talked to the guy who designed the kit, I think his name was Jeff or something like that. When I talked to him, had to be around 2002, he said that the molds for all the piece were in the back lot and he said that I could have them, lol... Unfortunately I was in Miami and didn't have the resources to retrieve them. I asked how many were produced and he said that they didn't keep a tight record on them so he didn't have an idea. At the time, the owner of Autoform, which was making Van conversions, when I called, still had the very first one produced.
I was toying with the idea on making kits. Would there be an interest. Might even offer the total conversion. Will not be cheap, but anything COOL and worth doing, never is
Like I said, my screen name was Devils Mentor and The Devils Mentor.

Re: Autoform Roadster Registry
Hey guys!
I might be picking up a complete kit, that was pulled from a wrecked camaro. I have a buddy that is a GOD with fiberglass and metalworks. He has worked on Lambos, Rolls Royce, Ferraris, and know everything about Vettes. If we were to start making kits, would there be any interest in it? We could even install if needed. As far as pricing, were not even there yet, obviously, but safe to say, this is one of those, not cheap moments.
I know I'm "NEW," but not really, lol... Like I said, I basically started the whole Autoform thing here, back in 2000, but I have an unique chance to offer something that not many can.
Let me know what you guys think.

Re: Autoform Roadster Registry
Slim, mine is an 83 Z28 White 1G1AP87H0DN117511 and I posted before it doesn't have an Auto Form production number or date tag. I know it was prior to June 17th of 1983 because it was the pace car for the Road America Sprint Races at Elkhart Lakes. I have searched for years without ever finding an earlier Vin Number and if they were actually delivered by GM for conversion and delivered to a Chevrolet Dealership as a dealer option, mine may well be the Auto Form prototype and first Camaro conversion.
Please let me know if you can find an earlier production Camaro. My research has only found 4 1983 Auto Form Camaro conversions an they are all newer than mine.

Re: Autoform Roadster Registry
I just dusted mine off and cranked it up for the first time in15 years. I'm gonna try and restore it. Any suggestions on where to get a replacement top.
Model year:1984
Model: Z28
Color: beige
Auto for production # A4-01758
Date of conversation: 4-4-84
Location of conversation: Elkhart, IN
Also it has a 305 that came out of my wrecked formula Firebird. I wish I would have kept the original engine. It never ran quite right after swapping the engine. I don't know if the computer sensors are off or what? I didn't do the work. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
