My 89 formula 350 ASC vert

I picked this 89 formula 350 ASC up several years ago and just decided to finally get started on rebuilding the motor last fall.
It's one of 42-43 89 Formula 350 ASC verts and one of 4 with a top color other than black. There are 2 tan tops and 1dark blue top, mine, left out of 2 drk blue tops.
Here are some pix from then up until now.

According to John, there were 42-3 89 formula 350 verts.
As far as the other bird numbers i don't know.
And yeah, the 17s would be perfect on this car!

Re: My 89 formula 350 ASC vert

Dropped the tank for a new pump and found out its a baffled 1LE tank with a bad sending unit and some rust in the bottom (from sitting)
Anyone have a good 91-2 tank/sending unit for sale?

After a whole whopping 30 mins, the tank is out. That's one serious undercoating job on this car. It'll be a pain to clean it up (Kymmee where are you!?!?!?!) but it helped save the car. I'll be cleaning up the rearend next winter I hope.

New pump

original coolant tank semi cleaned and the SLP airbox install has started.

Re: My 89 formula 350 ASC vert

Found a good 1LE tank/sending unit in the JY yesterday to replace the rusty factory 1LE tank I took out.

For those that haven't seen what makes the 1LE tank better, here is a hard to get pic of the baffle tub/tank.

Getting old, need a reminder.. (hard to write upside down)

Started installing the SLP catback.

Nothing major to report, exhaust is on front to rear.
New center link, idler arm and waiting on a inner tie rod and sleeve to replace the bent parts.

Top is up for the 1st time in 3-4 yrs. Diiiiirty and blue..

The tops resting place.

Re: My 89 formula 350 ASC vert

Got it down off the lift, ready to go for a test drive annnnnd it started raining.. (the hood is veeery dusty and the bumpers are peeling clearcoat..

Well, it stopped raining long enough to get this pic of it and the fact that it moves under its own power 4 the 1st time in 10yrs or so..
Here she is, several blocks from home and loving it.. (she looks a buttload better in the pic than in person..

On to little cosmetic items now...

Thanx, there is a lot of little stuff to do to it yet.
The plan right now is to drive it for a summer and fix the little things wrong, clean up the suspension this winter and maybe paint it the following summer.

Re: My 89 formula 350 ASC vert

In light of a few successful test drives and making some

fixed some small things like the door rattles and loose door weather strip today

Thought it was time to add something fun to the birdhouse to fix up.

Giving her the once over and setting up a parts list so we can get it put back together quickly and make some more ([popped a headgasket, was taken apart and has just sat for several yrs.)
Dang, I'm fat and my legs are freaky deaky white.....

Re: My 89 formula 350 ASC vert

I actually spent a friends money. I told him about it, went with him to look at it and buy it. (I'll end up buying from him it down the road, I'm sure)
I'll be putting it back together and giving it the once over, so far it looks like a nice deal.
Needs some interior work and some very minor paint touchup but overall, its a steal.

Haven't confirmed if it is #319 or not yet, I'll get Jan on it lol.

That's too cool. Yeah a good deal! I was watching it and waffling on it and Friday about 430 the wife said to me when I got home from work if I bought it. I said no, but I got a shipping quote. She said "WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR"!

So I tried to get hold of Jon, but by the time I did, it was going out the driveway.

Nice project. They're a blast to drive/terrorize the neighborhood!

Love this car! What's the story on the TTA? Is that one added to the collection?

Re: My 89 formula 350 ASC vert

The lack of front braking power was bothering me. So is the rusty suspension, front and rear suspension will be cleaned and properly painted next winter. (I want to drive her this yr!)

Sooo may as well use what's sitting around

Some caliper cleanup

Should be getting my new caliper hoses to finish the job today, then off to alignment.
