305 cam upgrade
I am getting ready to drop a 305 into my gta for a year or two as i finish the car then build a new motor. Some good friends and family set me up with a weiand intake holley 600 carb and a Hei vacuum advanced carb. Also purchased a used but good quality headman headers. Redoing the gaskets and new timing chain. While i am at this point debating possibly dropping in a cam. My issue is this is the older block its an 84 block. Was wondering what people think. Should i drop a cam in and if so which one. Or should i just leave it where I am at. I would love to get to 200 hp at the crank but at the same time I know this motor will be coming out once the rest of the car is finished.

Re: 305 cam upgrade
Crane 100052 is what I would run. Summit cam kits unless they have changed do not have the best lifters included with them. I have run 268/272 grind cams in several 305 and 350 builds. They work with the stock torque converter and have plenty of idle vacuum for power brakes and vacuum accessories. They work with the stock compression ratio and build great midrange torque and horsepower. I would say even a LG4 would make 250 HP and 300 TQ at the flywheel with that cam, decent intake, carb and headers.
