Hedman Headers ?

Wondering if Shorty or LT are the best option for my 1987 350 TPI Auto? From my searching it seems that the LT give our Cars less ground clearance. I already have a mini starter installed so Installation of the Headers will be a little easier, besides other modifictaions i have read about.
I can get a good price on a NIB set of Shorty's.
Also is the Summitt Y-Pipe part number 17478 the best match for this set of headers?

Thanks

Re: Hedman Headers ?

I have the Hedman short headers and 17478 Y-pipe.

My car has a SB 400 and 4 speed Borg Warner, with an old 3: Banks exhaust system.

The headers and Y-Pipe fit pretty good, but I did have to grind some of my mini starter mounting block to make clearance for the bolts connecting to the Y-pipe.

The headers fit without any hammering, crushing, or beating, which was a first for me.

The Y-pipe is 2 1/2" if I remember correctly

Re: Hedman Headers ?

Never liked the way my hedman shorties fit. I had to really work them in. When I swapped them for hooker 2055's, they fell into place. Much better design IMO.

Re: Hedman Headers ?

I was installing my hedman 17478 y-pipe and notice some things that might be a problem and was wondering if any of yall have delt with this issue. I got everything to fit good but now my tranny cooler lines are basically touching the y-pipe and the starter is also pretty close and I didn't know if that was a problem either.
Also I have the hedman shorties and they went in just fine only had to take valve cover off driver side and then they slide in

The Hedman set is not a great fit. I had to “reshape” my oil pan to get some clearance as it always touched. I went to hooker shorties and ypipe years ago and never looked back. It’s a much better fitting set.

Which hooker set do you have cause I saw the 2055 but they still have part of the smog system on them, which I don't want

Re: Hedman Headers ?

You can get the 2055’s without air injection tubes.
