Multi function switch question. Hi/Low Beam.

I have searched for about an hour.

My problem is with the multi function lever. When pulled backwards for hi-beams, it will not activate the push rod for the dimmer switch that is down on the steering column. It doesn't even click like it is supposed to.

I believe the technical term for it is "Pivot and Pulse Switch".

Where can I get a new one of these? Can't find one anywhere by searching that name.

First, if you have a tilt steering column, pull down on it and try and actuate the hi-beams. If it works when you do this then your pins on the tilt column have worn the bore, or the screws at the bottom are loose. If that's the case, you will need to address the column issue, or in the short term you can loosen and move the switch up to take up the slack on the pushrod a bit. It's a very common problem for the tilt columns to wear out like this and make it so you can't operate the high-beams.

Usually as described you just need to slightly loosen the two screws holding the switch down the column in place and move it up toward you to take out the slack and retighten them. You can make sure the switch is good by getting down there and pushing in on the front of the switch where the rod goes in. If it works fine just take up the slack

Also fairly common for the rod to fall out of the cup in the switch.

Re: Multi function switch question. Hi/Low Beam.

If the lever doesn't move the rod it's not the lever's fault. The part that the lever plugs into is the part I think you are referring to. You may have to open up the column to find out if the tab that pushes against the rod is damaged, or the rod is out of place. There are pictures on here somewhere that I've seen before that show how it's done. You'll have to search for them
