Sounds dumb as hell. Sorry, but that "trying to be different" thing is the #1 excuse behind a million bad ideas.

Isn't it enough to just be the first person to ever use random upper case letters and a huge run-on sentence with no punctuation?

I know the 5.0 in my 2014 f150 is badder than any LS based vehicle I have owned.

First...add some periods, and lay off the shift key! Those caps are killing me.

I'd have no problem with you doing a Coyote swap. It's your car, and I'm LONG over the stage in life where I care about what brand parts you used on your car. Cool racecar parts in cool racecar stuff is just cool. Always will be. Still, would I do it? -No. I'd keep it Chevy. But that's just M2C. If you do it, post a build thread.

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

I think it would be cool. Like you mentioned the extra width would mean some fitment issues, but what swap doesn't have that problem? If you could pick up a good coyote 5.0 for $600 (or less) like you can an lm7, the swap wouldn't be so rare.

I Agree lol i also like the way the Coyote sounds man that motor revs to the sky i think the max Rpm is 7,800 thats pretty high it seems like more fun than a LS

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

I'm not against the coyote 5.0's... I would love to swap a fox body notch one of these days, or turbo 5.3 LS. Either way, I think unless you have extensive knowledge on wiring and such, you should probably just go LS.

Yes i would also Agree with what you said that wiring does take lots of Time And Knowledge im a Decent Mechanic some things i have the Pros do for me I Learned not to bite of more than i can Chew that is kind of a downside that its a Fully Computerized Engine Unlike the LS1 u can Ditch the Computer and go Carb Its just a Temporary way to get it Running On a Budget Unfortunately That Wont Work on the Coyote

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

My brother swapped out his stock 2014 Coyote for an "Aluminator" 5.0 (and two 67mm turbos). The factory 5.0 is sitting in his garage in the Aluminator crate, and every time I look at it, I think about making an offer on it. My thought is.... how cool would that thing be in my 1991 Camaro! Those engines are very large, and tuning them is a nightmare, but they make a ton of power and seem to be of good design. If you need any measurements off one, let me know and I can get you what you need.

LOL! I like your choice of words. Not now of course.... And not "when" either.... but only "if" you ever do anything. That's the weakest smack talk I've seen in a long time.

Both Ford and Chevy have a good engine, but the LS3 is a better naturally aspirated engine, less expensive, and easier to swap into your '89 Camaro (by a long shot). The 5.0 runs great with power adder.... but what doesn't these days?

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

The Coyote is a great motor. But a swap into a thirdgen would probably be expensive and not worth it. Plus, the size of it would probably make it a tough swap.

I have a 2013 GT in addition to my 85 V6 firebird and I too would love this swap. you'd think if they can fit them into foxes then you could fit one into a thirdgen.

...But it looks like this thread is almost a year old and no one has made any progress.

As much as I like the idea of the DOHC Coyote, the Mustang that it comes in is kinda big for my taste, and has the aerodynamics of a brick sh!thouse.
I'd rather have the Coyote in something streamlined like a Firebird.

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

This thread and the other current thread about turning a Camaro into a Firebird or vice versa, are kind of like car forum versions of "when keeping it real, goes bad". Just because you can potentially do something, doesn't mean you should. Some day psychologists and mathematicians, and clinical geniuses will diagnose and assign a name for this mental disorder.

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

Yawn. The new 5.0 is a great motor............when you are buying a new pony car. People who have 3rd gens and money to spend don't put these motors in these cars. Why would you when a Gen IV 5.3 with a cam makes nearly the same power at 1/8th the cost. Even if you get it to work, and your wallet is empty, people will still say "435hp!? that's crazy mediocre....I can't wait to watch it understeer like a boss and click off a 12.7 at 112."

A 305 / 350 already kinda maxes out the 3rd gen engine bay. I foresee some fitment problems with this!

I think your skill level will have to be more custom fab / Chip Foose level rather than average Joe if you want something nice and reflective of the hard work and money...or you might end up with some "road kill" kine products....if you know what that is lol check out RoadKill on YouTube if you don't

Nah, but he's probably been on some thirdgen Facebook group talking with the rest of the lowlifes about how we're all such a bunch of elitist ***** *******s, and it's no wonder no one posts here but *******s, because we're all a bunch of dream smashing, hater, *******s. He'd be pooping wheelies in his coyote powered RS by now if only we weren't such *******s.

Yep, and then we get to take the typing issues to the street to race. I know I wasn't an 'A' student in English but I don't think my grammar and spelling was really that bad, was it?

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

I don't know if it will put this thread to rest, but here's an article on someone stuffing a Coyote into a Scion FR-S:
https://www.drivingline.com/articles...v8-scion-fr-s/

The writer made sure to touch on the things you need to take care of besides just physically making room for the engine.
I imagine the FR-S/BRZ has a fairly wide engine bay, since it comes with a flat-four engine.

In the case of an F-body, you probably have to make room at the expense of your inner fenders, right? Because the Coyote has those enormous DOHC heads. In fact, while the LS engines are apparently wide at the top, they seem to be much narrower at the bottom...

...While the Coyote is pretty wide from top to bottom, partly due to accessory placement.

You have to figure out how to rig it so you have a working tachometer, odometer, speedometer... (unless it's going to be a trailer queen, and even then you still want the tachometer, right?)
Sure, you're going to replace the existing GM computer with a new computer... And I assume it's an above-average pain in the rear-end to connect a new computer to your existing wiring harness.
You have to make sure your fuel system can provide enough flow.
Speaking for myself, I wouldn't want to sacrifice any accessories to make room for the intake. I have to have my AC.

The swap in the article was easier than it could have been because of the Scion's CAN-bus system (that I don't really understand), a Motec M150 computer, and a software ace on team.

I assume someone on this forum is smart enough to work all that out. Someone that smart may decide, with or without our input, that it's smarter not to do this swap.

(Meanwhile, the shop I go to [for the wrenching I can't do, myself] thinks it would be pretty nifty to put an LS in my Mitsubishi.)

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

I've now seen two Coyote Mustangs run at the drag strip and they were shockingly slow. Seems to be a great case study why peak HP doesn't tell the real story.

If you watch many YouTube videos of them you'd think they were the fastest thing under $100K. Lots of videos showcasing them beating corvettes, fourthgen and various other LS based cars. Glad to know I'm not crazy.

There are definitely fast Mustangs, but they aren't stock.... And odds are they have a power adder.

On the other hand, if you watch the right YouTube videos, you'd think a Tesla is the fastest car ever and V8 cars can't go to the drag strip without breaking. (And the Tesla videos conveniently don't show any race longer than a quarter-mile. Road course? Forget about it.)

You're certainly not crazy: Mustang owners post videos of Mustangs winning, Honda fanbois post videos of Hondas winning, the Tesla cult posts videos of Teslas winning and they expect you to join them or bow to your electric overlords.

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

i would suggest that you work hard at getting your grammar to an acceptable level.next focus on and learn were periods go .next,if i were you i would master the proper use of punctuation.
after you have done these things, worked your way through them and learned and understand the finer points of the english written language then its time to research things like
"logical engine swaps for the best performance and ease of maintenance." or "what are intelligent engine swaps for"(add your car here)"

realistically you can put anything into anything but is it a)smart or b)cool ? only you can learn grammar, punctuation and what you may find is really cool "to you"
there are thousands of ls swapped foxes because they are dirt cheap to do and work well,a coyote swap is a far more expensive endevour and needs to be well thought out.
there also the fact a cam change in a coyote is 3 to 4 grand and that's one performance mod.

You are definitly right. Here is my close friends 2013 coyote. Runs mid 12s but has a tune, 3500 converter, tons of money in exhaust and a cai. Always fun beating a mustang with a turbo v6 street car. He also runs drag radials. Iirc ran mid 13s stock

5.0 Coyote getting spanked by my friend's stock C5 LS6 Corvette in 1/8 mile racing. (Blame my wife for not hitting the Record button until she saw cars move.)

I have ran at the track. i ran an 8.8 @ 88. When i went WOT in third gear I would spin. because they do not get any traction on street tires, like I said. I have attached my bone stock dyno however. Blue line was stock. Red line was tuned, but had a false knock issue.

...this is because anyone who pays attention knows what a modern pony cars, SUCH AS a coyote mustang, should and do run when they have proper tires and a driver who can drive. (I can't)

Re: Coyote 5.0 Swap???

Poking around on the internet shows the magazines reporting 12.7 to mid 13. They said if it has an IRS it is slower due to weight. If someone is doing better than high 12s in a solid axle something is up.
