The wood trim was even installed by some dealers before the sale. It was very popular in the '70s and '80s to have the wood look, and the 3rd gens were just black, so it was looked at as an internal appearance upgrade.
Those kits were pretty popular back then. And if you look at the piece on the passenger side with the Z28 emblem, you will see that they were screwed on, ruining the dash underneath.
Well, that shouldn't be a big deal then because I see a huge crack next to the ERS emblem. Anybody buying this car would be removing the wood grain because they "NEED" to fix the cracked dash anyway!

That seems to be a weak spot on the third gen camaro. I've got a 1988 V6 sport coupe with the same crack.
Another common spot for cracking is on the plastic door trim on the inside of the windows and about 6 inches from the front on both sides. I've seen a few of these.
This car was actually bought at a decent price, but its being listed at well over twice what was invested. Based on the pictures it looks to have been cleaned & detailed & that might be it. This seller bought 4 more 85's from the same auction & one of them has low miles like this car in red with the contour seats. I was very interested in the red car at the auction. Will be interesting to see if that one comes up for sale & if it has documentation with it as well.

That being said, we all know the classic car dealers ask the moon for everything they have aka vanguard, Kuyoths Klassics, etc. They have huge overhead & have to make some money. Fix all the details on this black 85 & bring it back to what it should be & I think there is room for them to make money on it, just not 100% profit for a vacuum & polish
Always wonder what kind of person comes into these dealers & pays that kind of money. They are not that hard to find for a lot less money if you know where to look.
Those wood panel kits should come off easily. I had to remove one on a 1996 Volvo 850. Not bad at all. I just had to get under a corner and start lifting with a wide, flat tool (like a thinner Wonderbar) and it comes up. I didn't need to heat it (but that would have helped probably).

Thats the car I posted the link to just above. While its not a reason for the crack, it came from the same owner as the black one. 5 cars in all. These two are the best of those cars. The other 3 are drivers, one slightly less than that imo

Next the headlight buckets are too shiny. Looks like a repaint there. The undercarriage looks horrible for those miles. I just believe what they are trying to sell here.

Would also like to see the date codes on those VR's Not that they couldn't have been removed & put back on, or from another car, but seems most of the originals had very tight, if not the same dates on all 4 & are just weeks before the door jamb sticker.
Unfortunately we will probably never know the real history on these cars as the owner passed away earlier this year. the building they were stored in was newer construction, but who knows where they were stored before that. The building was probably only 4 maybe 5 years old?
Undercoating is the ***ed Devil. What kind of monster could spray goop all over brand new cars?
MANY new car dealers added the "mop n glow" undercoat, paint
sealant, fabric protection, pin stripe, mudflap package on ALL NEW cars
as soon as they came off the transporter (and STILL do) !
In the early days of internet, computers, low/invoice price deals
they HAD to make a buck somehow!
