Car: 1991 rs, 1985 z28

Engine: 3.1 v6, 305 tpi

Transmission: 700r4, 700r4

Axle/Gears: 3.23, 3.23

Relay ??

Anyone have a clue why the po would put a relay here ?

The yellow and purple wires are for the starter. So best guesses would be either a remote start, or starter disable relay, depending on how it's wired in.

It appeared to be wired into the neutral safety switch

Yeah, interrupt that circuit and the starter won't crank. Jump 12V+ into the circuit in park or neutral and the starter will crank. So depending on which way the relay is wired, would determine which purpose it serves.
