Which factory sized tired would you recommend for a daily driver? I'll be using snow tires in the winter, but for the rest of the year I'm thinking of all seasons. Which make/model tire would you recommend? Just bought an 88 GTA and the tires are bad
My recommendation -- you park the GTA for the winter, get some BFG G-Force Sport Comp summer tires for it in the spring and a $200 winter beater to drive in the salt and snow for the meantime..
Although I said daily, driving would be more of a weekend thing, thats why I'm not too worried about the salt since the car wouldn't be exposed to it on a daily basis, and I always try to wipe that crap off.
Although 245/50-16 options are no longer hugely available, general web searches do produce more results than people would expect to find. Tirerack, alone, currently lists eight tires, six of which are Z-rated, one is V-rated, one is H-rated, and all seem reasonably priced:
BFG G-Force Sport Comp-2 (an excellent and popular choice)
BFG G-Force Comp-2 A/S (newer and gaining in popularity)
Riken Raptor ZR (lesser-known, but excellent--would be cool for a Firebird)
Riken Raptor ZR A/S (a new variant of their ZR)
Cooper ZEON RS3-G1
Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTZ A/S
Kumho ECSTA PA31 (V-rated)
Hancook Ventus V2 Concept 2 (H-rated)
Firestone offers the Firehawk Wide Oval A/S (also popular, particularly for Firebirds)
And Nitto offers two tires:
The V-rated NT555R has long been a popular tire for 3rdgens.
And for little-used, summer-only 3rdgens, there's the Z-rated NT01.
