Re: BAD NEWS

Saw that. Sad. Read that it was due in part to their inability to secure additional land to extend the run-off area at the end of the track.

Re: BAD NEWS

It's not that, as the land could have easily of been secured, but the new Governor is flexing his muscle and has helped the liberals settle a dispute that has been going on for years. New Jersey will become a sanctuary state. The Napp family has stated various reasons as to why they did this, but the reality is, it was because of those who moved near the park that wanted it shut down, and this was an ongoing dispute. Although the park will still currently offer other venues like motor-crossing, it is just a matter of time before it closes its' doors for good because the racers are pissed that the Napp's didn't fight harder. Their father is rolling in his grave...

Re: BAD NEWS

That's Most Likely The Main Reason,Top Fuel And Funny Cars Have Not Run The Full 1/4 Mile For Years,The Track Can't Handle 300+ MPH Runs.

Re: BAD NEWS

That is not the reason at all, otherwise Atco, Island and Maple would be closing down too. The new Governor is the reason, take it from someone who lives ten minutes from Raceway Park. They are developing around the entire Raceway Park establishment. Even the airport behind Raceway Park has been threatened. E-town made more money in just one Ratchet Friday night event than it did the rest of the month in just regular drag racing, and the Ratchet Friday events were increasing in conjunction with the 732/908 vs 718/212 events that were coming. Trust me, the Napp family folded under political correctness pressure.

Re: BAD NEWS

Rob,

I read about the "run-off" issue in Autoweek.

http://autoweek.com/article/nhra/nhr...n=awdailydrive

I saw noise and local developments as a reason in another article.

Certainly sounds like the change in govt. didn't help.

Regardless, sad news.

Re: BAD NEWS

Dave, ending drag racing at Raceway Park has been going on since the 70's. The 90's introduced new land purchase, followed by the planning of a new Hindi Temple for the Indian residents and development of new housing. The Napp's have been fighting this for decades, it's nothing new. The area is promising because of its' access into NYC, as well as low crime rate. NHRA events, although traditional, are not needed to keep the track thriving. Local residents know the truth, but it doesn't matter at this point. It is what it is, but at least they need to call a spade a spade. The Napp family will of course keep it politically correct from a more news and media oriented perspective otherwise they will be sued. The run-off issue is a non issue because they were always able to solidify that land and implement it but the state always stopped them, and this time for good. I pass by that stretch of land almost everyday...

Anyways, on a more lighter note;

Re: BAD NEWS

Been going to Englishtown for decades. They had a picture of my friend and I from running 10s without a cage and asked to not do it again with that car, so we did with another... Doh!

Corvette Show & Go, especially when the red 1991 went into the lake during the autocross in 2005. In the 1990s, the MOPAR events were great, too. Sad.

Re: BAD NEWS

Can't ever make the yuppies happy, the only skill they have is complaining. Sad, shut down like like CT Dragway. Really is pathetic to MOVE near ANY track of any sort and then complain?.... Shouldn't you know what is going to happen? Not yuppies.

Re: BAD NEWS

You would think that with the increase illegal street racing, a track would benefit from having a safe place for people to race their cars.

Re: BAD NEWS

yea, I heard about this a few days ago and was devastated. i have been going there as a spectator since I was 4 years old. I racedd there during high school and made a few passes there over the years at different events, but never competitive racing with this car there. I attend the Summernationals there every year, and haven't missed one in the past 11 years. I also enjoyed when they had pro-mod and outlaw events like Shake-Down at E'Town and the Lucas division points meets.

what a sad sad thing to happen. My uncle is rolling in his grave and lots of car guys I am friends with in NJ are grumbling about it and retelling old stories.

A big factor was the NEW residents who moved in over the past few decades. They constantly were complaining about noise issues and traffic.

so sad
