Wiring Help- fuse keeps blowing

Just picked up an 89 T/A yesterday, so excited to have it back. Only issue I have is the fuse keeps blowing that controls the headlights pop-up/down and I also think that is the same fuse that has dash lights and running tail lights (they aren’t working either). When I replaced he fuse, the headlights did go down but it blew again. I’m assuming there is a wiring issue somewhere. Any idea how to find it and deal with it? Thanks for he help!

I'm assuming that the fuse you say keeps blowing is the CTSY fuse?

It appears that the CTSY fuse feeds power to the Headlight Switch to engage the Headlight Door Module On or Off. When the Headlight Switch is off, 12v from the CTSY fuse is fed to the 'Off' connection on the Headlight Door Module, and vice versa for the 'On' connection when the headlights are switched on.

It seems like your Headlight Door Module is drawing too much current when the Headlights are switched on and that's what is blowing the CTSY fuse. I'd check to see if pin 'A' (the 'On' connection) on the Headlight Door Module is grounded and is therefore blowing the fuse.

Here's a wiring diagram showing the Headlight Door Module aswell as the Headlight Switch:

Re: Wiring Help- fuse keeps blowing

Simple answer, unplug the headlight module, if everything proceeds to work as it should, you have found your culprit or at least the part of the wiring being affected, if it pops still, then the issue resides elsewhere in the schematic of that fused circuit. If everything still works with the module unplugged, turn the headlights off, plug the module back in completely, and see if unplugging one headlight motor at a time affects the fuse, as a motor can create too much draw too as it ages.

Re: Wiring Help- fuse keeps blowing

No luck. Unplugged both, flipped the switch and the fuse blew again. It’s my understanding that the other options on that fuse “tail” fuse, is the instrument cluster lighting, tail lights and not sure what else. Seems like there is a wiring issue but I’m not confident in how to find it.

Re: Wiring Help- fuse keeps blowing

I'll pull the schematic tomorrow for you. Shouldn't matter but 305 tpi or 350 tpi? If 305, auto or stick?
