Low pitched wailing noise

im like lost at this point, I just started hearing this low pitched wailing noise when I’m driving. When I turn the car on it loud and when I put it in gear it stops for a second when xomes back in shorter “bursts” but never completely goes away and it’s gotten louder. Thoughts?

A $3 Harbor Freight stethoscope will help you pinpoint the source.

I had thought it was internal but I’m pretty sure it’s the alternator bearing

Re: Low pitched wailing noise

Give it a squirt of oil and see if it shuts up .

Re: Low pitched wailing noise

You can even use a long screwdriver/pry bar held up to your ear. Set it against the water pump, alternator, p/s pump, etc and see where the sound is the loudest. Since you said it happens on start up, I'm going to guess the sound changes with engine RPM, not vehicle speed.

Married? Could it be your nagging mother-in-law? Or your girlfriend?
You are starting to hear her - even when she's not around.
