Re: 1992 trans am gta l98 how rare?
According to our friends at GTASourcepage.com there was 226 1992 GTAs (not including export which adds another 48). 144 of the 226 had the L98. The L98 was the standard engine in the GTA.
If the car was nearly parts car status, as you appear to suggest, I'd think that has more input on the subject than being the 10th or 1 of 274.

Do you have any clue if that car was ever in Chicago? If so it looks similar to one I used to see on a regular basis back in 1992. A busty blonde drove it.

On the radiator support there is another stamped number that will give the Body number off the line, this would include Camaros and Firebirds...
There was 4 Red 81U GTA's with 19I Black Cloth interior.
Cool FInd, I live only 30 min south of Saginaw...

Of the (approximately) 354 units of 1992 GTAs, there were approximately 305 units with RPOs J65 (4-wheel disc), KC4 (engine oil cooler), and N10 (dual catalytic converter exhaust).
You have one of approximately 288 units of 1992 GTAs with RPO JG1 Aluminum Prop Shaft.
My 200 page, 3rd Gen Firebird reference book will be available on Amazon by the end of the month, hopefully!

It would be the 10th, The First 1992 is a Yellow 1LE that was owned by GM for some time, and is now in the private collection of Bruce Hawkins of Hawksthirdgenparts.com

I drive thru Montrose sometimes when I take my cars out to exercise... Usually I go thru Birch Run tho... The BR route is almost exactly 20 mile loop. I like smooth roads...

Re: 1992 trans am gta l98 how rare?
That is your Body sequence as the car went down the production line. Exactly what I was looking for. What it tells you is that car is the 24th car down the line for the 1992 Model Year. Being that you have VIN 200010 that means your car was the 10th Firebird, but the 24th car.
Thank you, very cool. Do not see many cars under 1000...

Re: 1992 trans am gta l98 how rare?
When is the cutoff from one year to the next? The reason I ask, is my car is a model year '91 but was built on the 2nd of March, 1990. The VIN sequence is 201230, yet the body tag on my car is #4764. Did they really make over three and a half thousand Camaros in that time?

1990 Production went thru Dec 31, 1989.
For the 1991 Model Year 13 Firebirds were made in on Oct 30, 1989, and full 1991 Production started on Feb 14, 1990
The VIN sequence 201230 means that your car was the 1,230th 1991 Firebird. and the Body tag #4764 means that it was the 4764th car to come down the line.
In 1991. There was 50237 Firebirds and 100838 Camaros for 1991 MY. So yes, there would be about twice as many on average during that time.
