Car: 1987 Firebird
Engine: 2.8L V6
Transmission: 700r4
Mechanical to electrical

I’m trying to instal a 140 dash in my car but mine is mechanica and the one I bought is electronic how do I convert this to work?

Start by doing a search. The thread is out there, you just have to find it. Maybe try Google and keywords like firebird speedo convert electronic.

Or use a Vss sensor with a Vss buffer or Dakota digital sgi-5

shouldn't an 87 firebird come with an electric speedo?

my understanding was that the electric speedo started in 86 on the firebirds, but of course I could be wrong...

The V6 idiot light cluster was still mechanical.

Going to have to install the yellow VSS Buffer box and get the correct electric VSS with the correct (electric) speedo gears in the tranny. IIRC the 87 Firebird dash harness is already wired for the electric speedometer and you just need to add the correct parts. However; I'm not sure if the 2 wires leading to the Tranny mounted VSS are included the engine bay harness,... so plan on needing to also add the tranny VSS plug and wires. ( I think they connect to the Buffer thru/at the C207 connector )
