Hello everyone first post on the forum but have browsed and use tech tips for sometime now but finally I have a question that I haven't got the results from searching. I'm currently putting my 86 305 4bbl car back together and can't figure out the lower factory bracket. If anyone could post up a picture of what it looks like with the altenator off that would be great. Thanks in advance (my altenator is on the passenger side my car also utilises half v half serpentine setup)

That's the part on the alt. The other bracket goes to the water pump and looks like Indiana on it's side.

Ok yea I think I have the correct one. I was interested in the that bolts to the water pump. That helps narrow it down

Note also, that the AIR diverter valve bracket went between the tube spacer thing on the alt, and the head. If that is left off, the alt will sit too close to the head, and misalign that belt somewhat. A thick washer should be used behind that tube to keep the spacing right.

Do you have a picture of that? That's actually exactly what I'm running into now that I have the "indiana" bracket on. Thanks

A pic of which? Of a washer? Any 3/8" flat washer will do; or maybe, if you have thin ones, acoupla washers. Whatever it takes to space the alt out to where it doesn't bend the bracket in when you tighten the hardware up.

I'll give the washer route a try and see how it turns out. The pic I was referring to was the stock air diverter bracket that the washer is replacing. Thanks for the tips

The diverter valve bracket was just a flat piece of sheet metal with holes punched in it. Nothing real fancy or complicated. A big hole where it went under the alt spacer, and small holes for the valve to mount to it. It was maybe 14 or 16 gauge I'd guess. You'd want a washer(s) of about that thickness; .080" or so, maybe as much as .100".

With that belt setup (wide flat ribbed belt) you could maybe even benefit from using that thickness to dial in the pulley alignment.
