I have some questions regarding a donor 1990 Camaro diff that i'm building for my Hotrod '86 Camaro. I was wondering what size of carrier is in a '90 diff with a 2.72 posi? I'm going to order a 3.73 ring & pinion from Hawks soon but the donor diff needs a full rebuild and I don't know what size the wheel bearings are since they have different ring gear and wheel bearing sizes throughout the years. Also, are the E-brake cables the same for 1986 and 1990 Camaros? Thanks for any help!

If the '90 rear end is the GM 10 bolt then it takes the same axle bearings as all of the GM 10 bolt car rear ends. If it has a 2.73 gear then it's a 2 series differential and will require the thick ring gear, or a swap to a 3 series differential. If it's the Borg Warner 9 bolt then it's going to have press on axle bearings and the gear will be a 2.77, not a 2.73. It will also have a 2 series differential and will have to be swapped for a 3 series to use the 3.70 gear. There is no thick gear for this rear end.

Its the GM 10 bolt rear end. How do i tell if my diff is a 7.625 or a 7.75? So do all rear wheel bearings have the same ID and OD? I was looking on Rockauto and they have two different sizes of bearings

7.75 is the 9-bolt. 7.5 or 7.625 is the 10-bolt.

Brake cables for drums should be the same. Discs get a bit more complicated, since there were different rear calipers for 89-92, and early/late design cables on the later cars. Which 89-92 cables to use is its own crazy topic. Search and study.

Thanks for the imput guys! I think I have enough info now to find the correct bearings and cables so I can start rebuilding the diff. My dad and I were wondering how long it was setting under water or partially submerged because the entire underside of the donor car was rusted out so bad you could roll the car by putting your feet through the floor like the Flintstones. I have a few pics of my rusty brakes attached

1986 ACDelco E-brake cables from Rockauto are about a half inch longer than the 1990 ACDelco Cables according to their specs

There's a changeover in there from manual adjustment, to the self adjusting lever. Use the cables that match the car, ie the parking brake lever.

Alright, thanks! I was going to order them both since they were only $10 per cable but that clears things up A LOT!

I think I have one last question i can't find an answer on. Did the 1990 10-bolts have metric thread or standard thread wheel cylinders?
