What carb? What distributor? What transmission?

Minimum you will need a bypass style fuel pressure regulator to reduce the TBI fuel pressure down to the Carb's Fuel pressure. The fuel pump will need to be wired to key on power or a toggle switch. Look up some wiring diagrams on "Austin's Third gen" to find the wires.
If you plan on using an HEI distributor (which is the best choice here, IMO), you will need to wire key on power to the HEI and wire up the Tachometer wire.
The only easy way out as far as the trans goes is if you have a T5, oterwise you will need a tv cable, tps or something depending on what auto you have.
is your friend, here and on google. There are a ton of articles, threads, youtube videos, etc on the subject.

but im debating running the original TBI because the connections are very straight forward i can get running with TBI but is the carb more reliable?

If your TBI system is working properly, there is little to be gained (if anything at all) by putting that old Carter thing on there.
What's wrong (if anything) with your TBI system?

If better gas mileage and cold starts are what you consider reliable, count TBI as more reliable.

Yes you can.
Probably to the O2 sensor, if by "manifold" you are referring to the exhaust one. Same place it would go with headers. You would just screw the sensor into the header instead of the manifold.

The grounds go to a clean head surface on the rear of each cylinder head (some models)and are stacked. Originally there was a stud to mount the grounds on. On the passengers side there should also be a ground strap that connects to the bulkhead.

If you decide to go carb, there are indeed a multitude of resources. A search on this site or the internet will yield a multitude of ways to approach a carb swap.
To install a regulator, you need to run a line from the supply line from the fuel pump (largest line) into the inlet port on the regulator. Then, run a line from the outlet port on the regulator to the carb. Between the regulator and the carb is where a fuel filter and pressure gauge should go (unless the regulator has a port for a gauge). Run a third line from the return port on the regulator to the factory return line(2nd largest line).
Probably wise to go ahead with the TBI first, however. If you get it working right, you will be very happy with it.

Just curious cause while TBI sucks ***, TBI seems to be better then carb in a daily driver sense. why the switch?
