85 Real Transam value assesment ?

Howdy everyone , I'm new to 3rd gen forums and have some questions about a Bird I am selling, can I get some honest feedback on what she may be worth /I will give details , but you can always write or call me ...I'm a car guy ! Thanks Ben 307 780 5658

1985 original Black/Tan/gold factory 5 speed 4WDB/T- Tops w/fact storage pouch. vin 1G2FW87G4FL610***. Just short of 112,000 orig . miles running /driving . I believe this car has been in the dry western climate all its life, and that I'm 3rd owner ,It currently has a salvage title ,I have NOT gar faxxed it yet , but I believe it was due to a damaged nose piece, I have since owning it begun the process of assuring it stays in existence and working on it , In the process I got a pretty good idea of its overall Honest condition , I had access to a working pit so I got a feel for the underside as well as replaced the carpets , so I got a birds eye view of the near absolute perfect foundation of this western 5 speeder. From below , the car is preserved with Wyoming mud and Texas crude like film from years of minor oil leaks , but very solid , and very rust free ,as is typical of cars from this region of The Good Ol USA , for the life of me it looks like it has the factory exhaust system ? and its solid ? looks like as well as the red Factory ? poly bushings are not abused , I'm sort of a Ponch0 guy , I have 2 GTO's but not completely " Know'd Up " on my bird stuff, but I think this was a factory WS6 ? , Like I said ,I have not crunched its numerals yet ...Bottom line = Underside ROCK SOLID , moving on The car is not perfect , but More than Perfect for a 3rd gen candidate for resurection . Interior : padded dash ? was original Tan/Gold ? now has gray carpet and front /rear seats ,I have the original rear tan seats etc . when I pulled the carpet WOW what a pleasure ,the floors were dry and shiny from factory black paint NICE ... dash is cracked , headliner = $hit windows work -slowly, mirrors ? wipers work , blower blows , etc Interior needs TLC but very usable .

Exterior : very solid structuraly , as of yet I have not found any rust Even in the wheelwells ... SOLID, nose was replaced , flip up lights work ...but one has comes up and chatters at top ,needs adjustment , the hood doesnt appear bent , body is tight, someone has basically primer black touched up the factory black paint, and factory decals , the lower skirts are not abused , The car was not brutalized , just a little neglected . Snowflake rims on very decent tires , I have the Dorky looking factory gold units as well ... the tail panel has missing center piece and right tail lens has hole in reverse section outer plastic , the body is overall straight w/ no excessive or any ? bondo ...

engine : I believe this is the factory 305 E-carbed car , now has new edelbrock carb/intake and non computer HEI dist , the brain /ecm I dont believe is in use , I just got done doing head gaskets ,and the heads and cylinder bores looked very nice n clean ... I checked the function of the elec fan , and it comes on with the A/c...I dont trust letting these birds gett hot and waiting for it to reach 230 degrees for the factory system to function , Im in the process of setting valves now , The engine sounds STRONG drives and shifts TIGHT , The A/C has been removed Overall very solid car needs TLC , I would actually drive this car anywhere , or tows easy on uhaul dolly ,slip it in neutral ...n roll away .Im open to suggestions , let me know what you think , But I am in it 2800.00 and thats what I need out of it , or should I hold it restore it a lil more and go up ? what will the market bare on a Unit like this ? Thanks sincerely Ben 307 780 5658 call, text , or write

Salvage title in that rough of shape cosmetically is going to be a tough sell.

In my area that's a thousand dollar car if you don't mind waiting a while to sell it (and probably to someone who will use it for parts).

That car will need a full body/paint/interior overhaul to be presentable and even in nice "driver" condition, basic Trans Am's with higher mileage only pull 3500-4000. IMO, you should cut your losses take the $800 that someone's going to offer.

Thanks for your opinion , personally I don't agree , PARTS ? as far as salvage titles go Insurance companies would rather total a car this old then fix a damaged nose etc , no big deal to me as long as no structural damage present ...I just saw a rebuildable Shell on Franks $ 1750 https://www.frankspontiacparts.com/b...ablackgold.htm

And this car is every bit as solid or more ...again thanks for your feedback

We're not trying to knock your car down, just an honest opinion of what it's worth after watching millions sell and get posted online. 2 things to note with that example are first off, it's still for sale, and probably will be for a while. Secondly, someone who wants just a shell will have to spend all the time stripping yours down to nothing, which to many people is not worth the hassle when you can buy one that's already stripped. It's presentation too. Your car doesn't look like something that's rust free, it looks like a parts car.

i bought this for $3300(ive put a lot more into it since then) it needed a ball joint and e-brake cable to safety.your car is worth $1000 as it is if you find the right buyer.

Re: 85 Real Transam value assesment ?

Seems that G in the VIN means a High Output car. If an IROC HO car it would have a lot of interest. I don’t know if the Pontiacs are as desired.

Re: 85 Real Transam value assesment ?

Quick search on the web finds cars similar to yours for $5495, $3500, and $5500. Hagarty starts at 5800 and Napa at $4625. Start at the average and subtract any work you would want done before you would buy it. Good luck.
