1992 Trans Am Wiring Issue
I own a 1992 Trans Am and I’m working on getting her back on the road. Its been sitting in my driveway for about a year and a half. I did all the usual stuff, drained the fuel, changed the fuel filter, new spark plugs, wires and cap & rotor. Car runs great but I’m having an issue with the lights. The front right marker light looked to be out. I changed the bulb, but it was still dim. I put a volt meter on it and it was showing about 6 volts compared to the left side showing over 12. I turn on the headlamps and the Igbo side was dim. The left side is nice and bright. I checked all of the grounding wires and they all seem to be making good ground. I’m stuck.
My questions is, were should I look next. Any guidance would greatly appreciated.
Luis.

If the headlight ground is really good you will see zero volts on the ground pin of the headlight.

If the ground is really good:
The right headlight gets it’s power VIA a jumper to the left headlight.
Due to the fact the left headlight is good, the problem is a bad connection from left to right.
Of course we assume you’ve wiggled the connector and made sure it’s clean.

Okay. Headlight wiring was jiggled as suggested. Right side marker light is now bright, but when the right turn signal is turned on, the marker light turns off. Also, the front signal light turns off and the rear turn signal light is on, no blinking at any point.
I really appreciate all all the comments. I’m not good at electrical issues and this is really helping me trouble shoot this problem. Please, keep the suggestions coming.

The marker light is in series with the TS light, such that they blink opposite of each other. The one coming on while the other goes out is normal.
Lack of blinking is a TS bulb out somewhere. If the front one works, one of the rears is out. In a Firebird there's about 2 or 3 of em, check em all. In a Camaro there's only 1, and it's in the amber part of the taillight. That seems like a minor thing but creates a significant difference in the wiring between the 2 cars, esp in the steering column area.

I had the same problem. this may sound crazy but i switched the front park light bulbs and the problem switched to the other side. I figured a bad bulb, the bulbs in the car were amber, I went to auto zone and went to the counter and asked for the correct bulbs for my car and they gave me clear bulbs. put the clear ones in and problem solved.
